Description:
The Social Justice Initiative (SJI) at the University of Illinois at Chicago advances racial and social justice by nurturing intellectual insurgency and furthering the production of knowledge that seeks to change the world. Our work is centered around connecting scholars and activists inside and outside of the university with community-based social change agents in our city, country, and globally.
SJI has four ongoing program areas: The Social Justice Portal Project, the Chicago Justice Gallery, the Pipeline to Scholarship and Mentoring Program and the Justice Lens film series. SJI also hosts workshops, lectures, community discussions, events, and conferences. All of our programs encourage UIC students, faculty, and staff to connect with community members and organizers to explore issues of racial and social justice.
The Associate Director of External Affairs and Communications initiates, sustains, manages, and oversees the unit's external community relations, website, social media and publicity campaigns. Oversees unit's overall programming involving project development, oversight, and implementation. Salary range is $72,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience.
