Job Summary:

Join the School of Dental Medicine (SDM) as the Director of Human Resources. This is a full-time university staff role. The Director is a key leadership role within SDM and will be responsible is responsible for developing a multi-year strategic plan related to personnel administration for faculty, university staff, classified staff, students, working retirees, and temporary employees. This position provides policy guidance and interpretation to the deans, department chairs, administrators, faculty, supervisors, and employees on a wide range of personnel issues, which includes talent acquisition and planning, employee relations and performance management, compensation and payroll, employee learning and development, and human resources information structures.

Additional functions include providing advice and guidance to managers and employees, and performing functions including strategic planning and analysis, compliance with policies and laws, employment and compensation, job evaluation, performance and leave management, employee training/development, reward and recognition, employee relations, affirmative action, benefits, and employee records/information. This position is also responsible for advising leadership on payroll and budgeting issues.

The individual in this position must remain current on policies and procedures for the above tasks and ensure compliance with all university, state and federal guidelines as well as compose strategies to meet those guidelines. The position represents the school on various campus and in-house committees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Faculty personnel administration, including talent acquisition & onboarding, employee relations, termination processing, payroll processing, annual performance evaluation process, compliance with university rules and regulations regarding reappointment, and determination of sabbatical eligibility.
  • University and classified staff personnel administration within the school, including talent acquisition and onboarding credentialing and licensing compensation and promotions offboarding, employee relations and engagement, performance management and evaluation, payroll processing, and workers compensation and risk management claims processing.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of five HR professionals within SDM
  • Evaluate promotional opportunities within the school and developing programs to improve retention, enhance skills, advance individual careers and generally foster an atmosphere that promotes positive employee morale.
  • Assist the Associate Dean for Finance, Budget and Strategic Projects with the development of the university and classified staff compensation budget and for identifying appropriate and necessary changes in that budget
  • Develop a multi-year strategic human resources plan to include the leadership and administration of personnel programs
  • Develop on-going human resource policies in conjunction with university policies

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings, after first six months of employment.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in public administration, public policy, business, highereducation administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • Five (5) years of HR Generalist or personnel administration experience with direct responsibility in one or more of the following areas: employee relations, performance evaluation, talent acquisition, career development, organizational effectiveness, and change management.
  • Experience supervising full-time staff.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in HR, business administration, public administration, education, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing HR initiatives to improve the employee experience.
  • Demonstrated experience creating initiatives that align with the organization's strategic plan.
  • Experience in employee relations and performance management in a health care setting.
  • Experience in consulting with internal clients on a variety of HR topics to include recruitment, compensation, employee relations, position classification or employee benefits matters.
  • Experience with state personnel administration.
  • Experience working in higher education or health care setting.
  • HR certification - SHRM CP/SCP, SPHR/PHR.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to evaluate policies and exercise good judgment in the interpretation and application if policies, procedures and rules.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to organize and complete complex projects and to work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply knowledge of the school's organizational structure within an academic setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with various individuals to include senior level faculty, campus and school administrators.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, faculty, students and with departmental representatives within the campus and university.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA) and an in-depth knowledge of personnel administration practices, preferably in a university setting.
  • Familiarity with State of Colorado Personnel Rules and Regulations, visa acquisition procedures and training and retention programs for support personnel.
  • Familiarity with university rules and regulations regarding faculty personnel.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting hiring range for this position has been established as $97,916 - $124,549 annually.
