The base salary range, from the salary table(s), for this position is $68,400 - $180,200. Off-scale salaries' and other components of pay, which would yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. Salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Anticipated start: March 2023
Position duration: One year with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funding.

Position description
The Nielsen and Hockemeyer Labs in the Department of Integrative Biology and Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Project Scientist to develop and apply methods to analyze functional genomic data sets, such as single cell transcriptomic and perturb-seq data set generated from human organoid and stem cell models. This position reports to Professor Rasmus Nielsen. The Nielsen lab utilizes statistics and computational analyses to study evolutionary theory and genetics.
The research, which is funded by the Aligning Science Across Parkinson's (ASAP) initiative, focuses on determining how underlying genetic mutations associated with Parkinson's disease might alter gene expression pathways and impact disease development and progression. The ASAP project is a highly collaborative effort consisting of a team of researchers located at UC Berkeley and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Within UC Berkeley, the successful candidate will have access to multiple departments, including molecular and cell biology, integrative biology, statistics, and the center for computational biology.
This position will involve designing and executing experiments, data management, data analysis, manuscript preparation, presenting research, contributing to grant proposals, and mentoring students. This position provides full benefits.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
PhD (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program

PhD (or equivalent international degree) required by the appointment start date
Preferred qualifications
Experience with single cell RNA-sequencing.
Demonstrated experience in advanced genomics, bioinformatics and statistical analysis.
Ability to develop and troubleshoot new methodologies.
Ability to pursue exciting and fundamental biological questions.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Strong publication record in peer reviewed journal.
Ability to contribute to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
