Departmental Overview
The teaching and research activities of the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) concern the molecular structures and processes of cellular life and their roles in the function, reproduction, and development of living organisms.This agenda covers a broad range of specialized disciplines, including biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, structural biology, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, cell biology, developmental biology, tumor biology, microbiology, immunology, pathogenesis and neurobiology.
The goal of the NeuronS_MATTR network ( https://www.massageneuroscience.org ) is to identify biological mechanisms through which massage and other mechanotherapies alter the nervous system to promote well-being. We are an inclusive and collaborative research community focused on mechanisms mediating the body-brain connection. Our multidisciplinary research network includes neuroscientists, physiologists, engineers, physiotherapist and clinicians across seven academic institutions in the US and Sweden.

Responsibilities
GRANTS - RESEARCH - ADMINISTRATION
In collaboration with Co-directors and Steering committee, applies professional concepts to monitor timelines, budgets, and deliverables related to moderately complex projects, policies, and/or processes and functions, specifically: Monitor timelines, budgets, and deliverables for projects; identify issues with meeting agency requirements well in advance. Assists with the implementation of calls for and reviews of proposals for new research projects, analyzes data on discipline and scope, and prepares information for use in discussions. Manage project budgets, with subcontracts at other institutions. Provide assistance and oversight with subcontracts/other agreements, including compiling required documentation, drafting scopes of work, monitoring sub-awards, including invoicing, and ensuring adherence to regulations/processes, e.g. animal protocols, and reporting requirements Gathers and analyzes factual data. Prepares, edits, and modifies documents including research progress reports, manuscripts, presentations, and proposals. Manages project-related communications to the agency, including analyzing, drafting, and/or curating content for reports and presentations. On a project basis, performs analytical duties on a variety of policies, research initiatives, programs, and issues. Ensures that Network-funded researchers are in compliance with regulations/processes, e.g. animal protocols, and NIH reporting requirements, including other support and conflicts of interest.
NETWORK COORDINATION
Coordinates with team members to prepare meeting documents for NeuronS_MATTR team meetings, specifically: Manage relationships with team members, and gather data from team members and other sources for research projects. Coordinate program planning and collaboration through monthly working group meetings, and executive committee meetings. Coordinate program planning and collaboration with other research networks and the NIH through trans-network steering committee meetings. Liaise with the BEST research administrator and SPO staff to submit NIH progress reports in a timely manner.
EVENTS
Helps plan and execute a variety of research-related events such as summer schools, conferences, and webinars. Coordinate periodic research-related events such as summer schools and conferences, including oversight of logistics and budgeting, communications, and reimbursements.
OTHER DUTIES
General programmatic tasks/special projects as assigned by Co-Directors.
COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT
Manage event postings on websites, update Events calendar, create flyers for research-related events, and listserv updates.
Required Qualifications
Proven ability to work independently and effectively to complete assignments in a fast-paced, unstructured, and changing environment. This includes the ability to use excellent judgment to establish priorities and resolve problems under short deadlines and with interruptions. Strong skills in short-term planning, problem-anticipation and -solving, and customer service; ability to independently investigate solutions to administrative challenges and anticipate leadership needs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate in a friendly, courteous, and proactive manner using Zoom, telephone, e-mail, and Slack. Good follow-up skills, using Zoom, telephone, and email communications with team members. Experience in the development of collaborative processes and participating in multi-disciplinary scientific teams. Knowledge of program and/or project management skills and principles such as coordination, planning, scheduling, tracking, and computer-based tools to perform the work successfully. Effective interpersonal skills and diplomacy are necessary for working in a diverse team environment. Proven experience working as a team member and with internal and external staff, collaborators, and funding partners. Strong competency with MS Office (including Excel and Powerpoint), PubMed, and Google applications. Experience in administrative and project planning. Strong analytical/problem-solving skills. Proficient in the ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Proficient in the ability to set and adhere to deadlines. Proficient in the ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's/advanced degree in neuroscience, bioengineering, or other STEM field and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of and/or ability to learn common NIH Reporter, Grants.gov, and other common computer application programs used at UC Berkeley. Working knowledge of and/or ability to learn the Berkeley Financial System, Reimbursement System, UCOP travel policies, and BearBuy. Extensive experience in an academic research environment. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Education/Training:
Masters or PhD in neuroscience, bioengineering, molecular & cell biology, physiology, or public health and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $74,500.00 - $75,500.00.
This is a 48-month, 100% full-time (40 hours per week), contract position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is exempt and paid monthly. This is a hybrid position, eligible for 60% remote capability.
