UC Davis Health is Hiring a Remote Trauma Program Manager (PAT RCDS ABSTRACTOR 3)

Job Summary

The Trauma Program has the responsibility of Trauma Program data abstracting and reporting. The purpose of this position of Registrar is to maintain the integrity of the Trauma Registry (inpatient, outpatient, and other established criteria), which contains patient care data from the following phases of care: prehospital, emergency department, hospital course, and final outcomes. The incumbent is responsible for assuring the accuracy of all components of the database, producing reports, and participating in complex database management processes. The incumbent also monitors accounts for the Trauma Program and assists the manager to ensure proper use of the monies if needed. The incumbent serves as a liaison to Patient Financial Services to support the billing of facility fees for the Trauma service, per UCDH, Federal, State, County, and/or third-party payer policies and guidelines as needed. The Trauma Program also has the responsibility for providing public and professional trauma education. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the American College of Surgeons Advanced Trauma Life Support Course offered at UC Davis Health.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing programs and applications.
  • Experience in abstracting and exposure to patient medical records
  • Knowledge of medical and technical terminology and practices to include knowledge of pre-hospital care, emergency, and discharge information and characteristics of trauma patients.
  • Analytical skills to begin with a stated problem, identify needed information and obtain it from a variety of sources, draw conclusions, develop and evaluate alternatives, develop solutions and monitor processes.
  • Critical thinking skills required to determine formulas or queries to abstract information from trauma database.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical diagnostic and procedural terminology required. Understanding of disease process, anatomy and physiology necessary to identify, assess and resolve issues of performance improvement and quality of care.
  • Skills to accurately read handwritten and transcribed documents in the medical record, interprets information, and enters complete and accurate data into electronic database and/or manual data collection applications.
  • Skills to work accurately under pressure with the flexibility to maintain effectiveness when there are multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Skills to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with individuals possessing varying levels of comprehension.
  • Tact and diplomacy skills required in obtaining information from widely varied hospital and public sources.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills to independently define a problem, identify the resources available, create viable solutions and take the necessary action.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding data security and confidentiality to protect the inappropriate release of information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Trauma One database.
  • Prior completion of a human anatomy course.
  • Experience with EPIC for Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Experience coordinating educational courses such as Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), or a conference.
  • Knowledge of ICD/CPT coding is desirable.
  • Awareness of current information related to reimbursement regulations for the various payers is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of trauma systems

The Trauma Program is committed to achieving greater efficiencies in the delivery of health care services, reducing costs, and improving the quality of care delivered to trauma patients. This is accomplished using effective performance measures to collect reliable data and by addressing processes that have important direct or indirect effects on patient outcomes including those that cross internal and external organizational boundaries. The Trauma Program is also committed to community outreach, prevention, and education. UC Davis provides optimal care to the critically injured patient in accordance with regulations for Level 1 Adult and Level 1 Pediatric Trauma centers.
