Controller (Hybrid)
Responsibilities
Lead Accounting Team
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
  • Hire, train, develop and lead the accounting staff with the goal of maximizing the strengths of each team member to create an efficient, high functioning team
Payables/Receivables Oversite
  • Direct the day-to-day accounting operations including oversight of accounts payable and receivable, and maintenance of the general ledger
  • Maintain the company bank account balances
  • Oversee Owner and Ambassador Payouts by reviewing reconciliations, updating recoupments, executing payments, and overseeing artist accounts to ensure they have a payment method and tax documents
  • Ensure that monthly bank and cash reconciliations are completed
  • Manage Payroll processing
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
Management
  • Manage financial system interaction and any future planned implementations
  • Assist VP of Finance in managing organizational cash flow and forecasting
  • Develop and implement accounting policies
  • Manage internal control operations
  • Assist VP of Finance in assessing, managing, and minimizing risk
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database as needed
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes and periodically update the organization’s accounting standard operating procedures
  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Owner and Client Services Communication (Licensing payout questions, reports, payments, etc.)
Reporting
  • Prepare reports for lead team (accrued revenue from prior month by segment, sales performance by licensing exec, payout percentages report, foreign sales by country, )
  • Manage regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Provide Budget to Actual variance explanations
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
  • Complete Vendor reports (BMI, AdRev, 401k)
  • Make Financial Adjustments for accrued revenue
    • Accrue Distributions
    • Subscription and licensing revenue (including outstanding PO’s)
Taxes
  • Assist in tax minimization objectives
  • Prepare special reports for government agencies
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting
  • Ensure all Quarterly and Annual tax filings are completed on time and in accordance with related laws and regulations including reviewing filings prepared by third party vendors
  • Assist in Federal Tax requirements including tax returns, tax estimates, Foreign Withholding, as well as review federal filings for employer taxes (including quarterly and annual employer filings), Responding to tax notices
  • Oversee and assists with the preparation of annual 1099 and 1042 filings
  • Assist in all State Tax requirements including Texas Franchise Tax, Sales Tax as well as compliance in other states we have nexus in. (including quarterly and annual employer filings)
  • Assist in all International tax and monitor revenue by country to determine future compliance based on thresholds
  • Ensure VAT and GST tax returns are filed quarterly and reviewing monthly tax liability
  • Make sure all tax payments are filed and paid monthly or quarterly including VAT and GST
Compliance
  • Manage audit functions, organizing any information needed for both internal and external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports
  • Advise VP of Finance of actions and potential risks
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
Budgets
  • Assist VP of Finance with annual preparation of budgets
  • Review, monitor and assist VP of Finance in managing departmental budgets
  • Produce monthly budget versus actual reports
Support
  • Advise on financial analyses and decision-making regarding capital investments, pricing, contract negotiations, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters with management and VP of Finance
  • Assist VP of Finance in Cash Flow and Cash Management
  • Assist VP of Finance in Risk Management
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in field and CPA is a plus
  • NetSuite experience a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis and reporting
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
  • Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
  • Exemplary history of financial project management
  • Advanced computer skills, specifically in Excel and comfortable working with a mac computing platform
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
  • Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members
  • Ability to deliver quality work on tight deadlines, with strong organization and priority setting skills
