The Role:

We have an exciting opportunity in our Finance department for a Plant Controller to join our team. You will be based out of our Fort Worth Plant in Texas and report remotely into our headquarters in Canada.

As the sole finance resource for our U.S. operations, you will be responsible for ongoing analysis of financial results, providing insights and recommendations on performance improvement opportunities, and ensuring control policies are in place to safeguard company assets. You will provide financial and non-financial insights required to manage the plant’s performance and lead the operating budget, ensuring that clear accountabilities are in place to meet the plan. As well, you will collaborate with Plant Management and the Senior Director of Operations Finance to develop strategy, provide analysis, and recommend actions that will drive attainment of the plant’s goals.

This role will require you be at the Fort Worth Plant a minimum of 3 days a week.

What you get to do:

  • Analyze variances versus standard and budgeted costs for month and year-to-date results and prepare the required reports.
  • Working closely with QA, Production, Procurement, and Scheduling, you will track monthly metrics for savings.
  • Present and review the month-end/year-end closing financial results with the plant and finance teams.
  • Prepare the monthly financial review package for the plant.
  • Gather information required to perform month-end accruals, create and post required journal entries.
  • Help prepare, document, and analyze manufacturing budget for the plant.
  • Develop, monitor, and update plant overhead standards and the related supporting work, including understanding and/or developing crewing, machine speeds, material yields, plant allocation measures, and overhead budgets.
  • Monitor plant overhead actuals results compared to standards.
  • Prepare the financial evaluation of plant capital expenditures proposals and control spending.
  • Prepare financial data, business input and analysis for special projects.
  • Support VPs, Plant Manager and Department Managers on key projects.
  • Define, assist in developing, and manage key reports, data, and systems to support Plant teams and downstream data users.

What you bring to the role:

  • University degree in Business and Accounting.
  • Accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA), or actively pursuing, is required.
  • 7 years of hands-on manufacturing accounting experience at the plant level. Previous experience as a Plant Controller is an asset.
  • Cost accounting experience, with strong inventory background and budgeting.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, preferably with experience reporting to a remote manager.
  • In-depth working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets.
  • Enterprise solution software experience (MS Dynamics AX and/or D365 Preferred).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate with all levels of personnel in a manufacturing organization.
  • Results and deadline oriented with the ability to provide new ideas and challenge current thinking.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with changing priorities based on business needs.
  • Good organizational skills and detail oriented.
