JOB SUMMARY
The Westwood Contractors Controller is responsible for all aspects of the company accounting practices
and financial management. In doing so, the Controller maximizes return on financial assets by establishing
accounting/financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems. Accountable for the
accounting/financial operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports,
maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and
budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and
ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
The Controller will manage payroll, review bank reconciliations, manage legal disputes, develop IT
planning, and strategies, supervise the company’s third-party information technology vendor, manage
technology inventory, and update our IT accounting system reporting. The Controller will also manage the
company's cash position, legal, bonding, and banking relationships, lead the annual budgeting process and
long-range business plan development activities. Works with public accounting firm to ensure timely tax filings and accurate completion of annual audit. The ability to present information to executive leadership team and Board is critical; in those
presentations, must be able to define problems distinctly, collect data accurately, establish reliable facts,
and draw valid conclusions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
The Controller should possess a strong foundation in accounting and finance, ideally holding a Bachelor's
degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a CPA designation being highly preferred. The
candidate should demonstrate a proven track record with several years of experience in senior financial
management roles, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting
principles. Exceptional leadership and communication skills are imperative for effectively managing a range of
responsibilities, from overseeing financial operations and legal disputes to leading IT planning and strategy
development. The ability to navigate complex financial reporting systems and proficiency in financial
software and the MS Office Suite are essential. The successful candidate will also exhibit strategic thinking, collaborative teamwork, and a keen eye for detail, ensuring the accuracy of financial results and compliance with regulatory standards. Familiarity with legal and bonding processes, coupled with the ability to engage with external stakeholders and
present complex financial information to the executive leadership team and the Board, will be critical for
success in this role

JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Financial Management: Oversee all aspects of the company's accounting practices and financial
management to maximize return on financial assets. Supervises all accounting activities to ensure
adherence to corporate financial and accounting policies.
Leadership: Oversee/develop/enhance the operations of the accounting department, including the design
of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives. Recommend
and monitor benchmarks and metrics against which to measure the performance of company operation.
Financial Oversight: Oversee/develop/enhance the financial operations including AP/AR, job cost
accounting, payroll, and cash flow management. Oversees the annual audit by our 3rd party CPA firm.
Policy and Procedure Development: Develop and maintain the system of internal accounting controls and
financial reporting as well as a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
Financial Reporting: Produce periodic financial reports and ensure the accuracy of the company's
reported financial results, complying with generally accepted accounting principles. Responsible for
budgeting, forecasting, and analysis; conduct monthly job cost reviews, closeout processes, and financial
reviews. Administers financial analysis activities and provides for the analysis and interpretation of past,
present, and indicated future results of the company and its divisions and/or affiliates, relating to sales,
costs, profits, and rate of return.
Payroll Management: Manage payroll processes to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
Bank Reconciliation: Review and oversee bank reconciliation processes to maintain financial accuracy.
Legal Dispute Management: Manage legal disputes to protect the company's interests and ensure legal
compliance.
IT Planning and Strategy: Develop and implement IT planning and strategies, supervise third-party IT
vendors, and manage technology inventory.
Cash Management: Manage the company's cash position and banking relationships.
Budgeting: Lead the annual budgeting process and contribute to long-range business plan development
activities. Review all capital expenditure requests. Prepare and present financial analysis for requests
requiring senior management or board approval.
External Relationships: Work with external public accounting firms to ensure timely tax filings and
accurate completion of the annual audit.
Communication and Presentation: Present financial information to the executive leadership team and the
Board, demonstrating the ability to define problems, collect data accurately, establish reliable facts, and
draw valid conclusions.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation is highly preferred.
• 7 years of experience in the construction industry required.
• Prior Controller experience is preferred.
• Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Experience managing IT planning and strategies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Proficient in financial software (Sage 300 CRE/Timberline) and MS Office Suite.
• High attention to detail and accuracy required.
• Ability to direct and supervise other employees required.
• High level of integrity and accountability required.
