Super 7 Girls is Hiring a Director of Marketing (Volunteer Opportunity) Near Chicago, IL

Are you able to create compelling presentations that leave your audience in awe and incredibly excited about the subject matter? Are you able to figure out the best way to promote and market a particular product to a targeted audience with ease? Well, let's see how well you can really do this! You have 2 minutes to figure out the best way to market the importance of girls having super powers and the impact this can have on communities. Of course, we will not know how well you did on this quick exercise unless you apply for this amazing opportunity. At Super 7 Girls, you will be working with a collaborative team who all have the same goal of helping as many girls as possible have access to their super powers so they can change the world. We need people who can help us understand how best to disseminate our story so we can fulfill the mission of Super 7 Girls.

We are looking for people who are passionate about helping the girls in our program! At Super 7 Girls, you will be working with a collaborative team who all have the same goal of helping as many girls as possible have access to their superpowers so they can change the world. We need team members who can help oversee the development of our new curriculum so together, we can fulfill the mission of Super 7 Girls. If your interest has been piqued, this may be a wonderful volunteer opportunity for you and it will no doubt be as rewarding as it is impactful.

Super 7 Girls would not function without the help of volunteers. We are still a young organization and we are building our organizational capacity. We are working hard to build a new marketing department so that we have the ability to help more girls have super powers. As we grow, we need people like you - marketing gurus who can help give voice to the work that we do each day and can highlight the impact that we have on the girls and our overall community. We need you. We need your brilliance, your drive, and your expertise. It goes without saying that, your support in this role would help build the foundation we need to reach new programmatic heights. About Super 7 Girls

Super 7 Girls mission is simple - We help girls from under-resourced communities of color have superpowers (you read that right!). Now, when we talk about superpowers we don’t mean that in the metaphysical sense. When we discuss superpowers we are discussing a certain mindset. By helping girls build various skill sets that they need, they will feel emboldened, confident, smarter and…yep, you got it…superpowered. They will know that there is nothing that they are unable to conquer and that no challenge is too great.

So, you must be curious?!? How does one go about giving superpowers? We know that superpowers grow from consistent access to curriculum that focuses on education, health, financial literacy, policy, arts, leadership development, and global engagement and this consistent access helps the girls have a deep understanding of how their increased knowledge means a stronger ability to take on life’s challenges. We also know that their increased knowledge base disrupts the cycle of generational poverty and transforms the life outcomes and trajectories of the girls in our program. In essence, their superpowers enhance their overall well-being and helps them dream new dreams.

As you can see, we have big, hairy, audacious goals and we need bold Interns to act as role models of this superpower mindset – visionary, courageous, confident, determined and reflective. Our environment is fast paced and dynamic and volunteers work hard. With that said, what makes our culture amazing is that everyone is willing to help with any task because we are all working towards the goal of helping these girls be amazing superpowered individuals.

Desired Qualifications, Experience & Education

  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills
  • Experience developing and managing budgets, and hiring, training, developing, supervising and appraising personnel
  • Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications
  • Computer literacy in word processing, data base management and page layout
  • Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams
  • Strong oral and written communications skills. Ability to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Experience in marketing, communications or public relations with demonstrated success, preferably in the non profit sector
  • Bachelors degree in journalism, marketing, public relations preferred. Graduate degree in a related field is desirable
  • Experience working with volunteers is desirable

Essential Duties, Responsibilities & Requirements

Marketing, Communications & Public Relations

  • Responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of: a) a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations program that will enhance Super 7 Girls' image and position within the marketplace and the general public, and facilitate internal and external communications; and b) all Super 7 Girls marketing, communications and public relations activities and materials including publications, media relations, client acquisition and so forth
  • Ensure articulation of Super 7 Girls' desired image and position, assure consistent communication of image and position throughout Super 7 Girls, and assure communication of image and position to all constituencies, both internal and external
  • Responsible for editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all Super 7 Girls publications
  • Coordinate media interest in the Super 7 Girls and ensure regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests
  • Act as the Super 7 Girls' representative with the media
  • Coordinate the appearance of all Super 7 Girls' print and electronic materials such as letterhead, use of logo, brochures, etc. 
  • Develop, coordinate and oversee programs, technical assistance and resource materials to assist chapters in the marketing, communications and positioning of their activities
  • Ensure that the Super 7 Girls regularly conducts relevant market research and coordinate and oversee this activity; Monitor trends
  • Leads projects as assigned, such as cause-related marketing and special events

Planning and Budgeting 

  • Responsible for the achievement of marketing/communications/public relations mission, goals and financial objectives. Ensure that evaluation systems are in place related to these goals and objectives and report progress to the CEO and Board
  • Develop short- and long-term plans and budgets for the marketing/communications/ public relations program and its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance
  • Recommend short- and long-term Organizational goals and objectives to the CEO
  • Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary to the smooth operation of the marketing/communications/public relations function
  • Keep informed of developments in the fields of marketing, communications and public relations, not-for-profit management and governance, and the specific business of the Super 7 Girls and use this information to help Super 7 Girls operate with initiative and innovation

Organizational Strategy

  • Work with senior staff, other staff and volunteers to: develop and maintain a strategic perspective -- based on marketplace and constituent needs and satisfaction -- in organizational direction, program and services, and decision-making; and, ensure the overall health and vitality of Super 7 Girls
  • Help make sure that the Super 7 Girls' philosophy, mission and vision are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization
  • Develop and coordinate means to seek regular input from the Super 7 Girls' key constituencies regarding the quality of programs, services and Super 7 Girls' relevance
  • Help formulate and administer policies to ensure the integrity of the Super 7 Girls
  • Act as an internal consultant to bring attention and solutions to institutional priorities

Managing

  • Maintain a climate that attracts, retains and motivates top quality personnel, both paid and volunteer
  • Recruit, train, appraise, supervise, support, develop, promote and guide qualified personnel, both paid and volunteer
  • Ensure effective management within the marketing, communications and public relations function, with provision for succession
  • Design, support and oversee cross-functional teams throughout Super 7 Girls
  • Effectively enable volunteers and staff so they can take action on behalf of the Super 7 Girls by: a) transmitting Super 7 Girls' values, vision and direction; b) engaging people in the meaning of Super 7 Girls; c) respecting and using the skills, expertise, experience and insights of people; d) providing direction and resources, removing barriers and helping develop people’s skills; articulating expectations and clarifying roles and relationships; e) communicating which includes helping people transform information into knowledge and learning; f) encouraging people to question organizational assumptions and ask strategic questions; ensuring quality decision-making; g) anticipating conflicts and facilitating resolution; h) engaging people in process as well as tasks; encouraging people use their power, i) practice their authority, and accept their responsibility; j) modeling behavior; and k) coaching people to success

  • This position works closely with and is supervised by the CEO of Super 7 Girls
  • We are seeking a year long commitment
  • This position is fully remote and requires 10-15 hours a week
