Environmental Program Analyst

Job Position Number: 4050195

Salary: $1,700 - $2,078 *Salary may be commensurate of education and/or experience

Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality and will be located at 1730 East Elm Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101

Why you’ll love this position:

You will be joining the Department’s Brownfields/Voluntary Cleanup Program (BVCP), where you will work as a project manager overseeing the remediation and redevelopment of contaminated properties and participate in the revitalization of our cities, towns, and communities.

What is a brownfield? Brownfields are sites where redevelopment and reuse is complicated by known or suspected contamination with hazardous substances. Here in the BVCP, we provide oversight for the voluntary cleanup of environmental contamination by property owners and other interested parties, as well as work with public entities on redevelopment projects. Our projects range from the cleanup of small gas stations and dry cleaners to large industrial complexes, and the redevelopment of properties for small businesses to large residential, commercial, and industrial projects. So come join our amazing team and make a difference for Missouri’s communities and the environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee the investigation, remediation, and management of sites enrolled in the voluntary cleanup program.
  • Work with Department contractors to provide environmental site assessments to municipalities and non-profits, aiding them in redeveloping their contaminated properties.
  • Go out in the field to oversee sight cleanup and take environmental samples.
  • Help research, develop, and write internal and external guidance and policies related to site assessment and cleanup.
  • Communicate with site owners, developers, consultants, citizens, and government representatives involved in brownfields and site cleanups.
  • Conduct outreach to aid brownfields redevelopment, including the annual Missouri Brownfields Conference.

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as environmental science or technology, geology, chemistry, biology, or other closely-related field.
  • Computer literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.
  • Work 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. schedule and the ability to travel statewide which may require overnight stays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of current environmental issues, laws, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of current sampling technology, remediation technology, data analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Ability to give presentations before a large audience.
  • Ability to work both independently and with a group.
