State of Missouri is Hiring an Environmental Program Supervisor - 4050018 Near Jefferson City, MO

Salary: $2,449 - $2,571 semi-monthly

Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, and will be located at 1730 E. Elm Street, Jefferson City, MO.

Why you’ll love this position:

As the leader of the Remedial Project Management Unit (RPMU) in our Superfund Section, you will supervise a team of scientists to provide project management oversight of sites on the National Priorities List (NPL) and sites in state cleanup programs. Team members address hazardous substance sites across the state to benefit Missouri’s public health and environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Serve as the RPMU Chief, supervising three Environmental Assistants/Analysts and one Environmental Program Specialist overseeing the investigation and cleanup of sites in accordance with laws, regulations, policies, up-to-date science and technologies, and best management practices
  • Conduct interviews and hire recommendations, train, plan and assign work, coach, and conduct performance evaluations
  • Coordinate activities conducted under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Consolidated Cooperative Agreement (a grant) with two other unit chiefs to ensure the Section meets commitments under the grant
  • Ensure timely, quality, and consistent document review and comment, site cleanups, and risk management decision making
  • Assist in projecting, budgeting, and tracking EPA Superfund state obligations, and other budget preparation activities
  • Coordinate with other Department programs, EPA, other agencies, and stakeholders to support Superfund site cleanup
  • Participate in public meetings, technical meetings, and site visits as needed. Make public presentations
  • Respond to public and legislative inquiries, and provide assistance to Department management on Superfund sites
  • Refer sites to the Department’s General Counsel’s Office, and assist in developing Orders, Settlements, Consent Decrees, and other legal documents pertaining to Superfund site management and state oversight cost recovery. Other duties as assigned

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences/natural resources/physical sciences and 4-6 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and/or apply laws, regulations, policies, guidance procedures, maps, plans, and reports
  • Ability to recommend budget items and work within budget constraints
  • Training, certification, and/or education in continuous processor improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
