Description

Position Summary

The Sales Manager effectively solicits, qualifies, negotiates and closes all assigned accounts to positively impact hotel revenues and market share goals.

Responsibilities

  • Practice, maintain and promote Sheraton standards and our Brand Core Values
  • Responsible for prompt handling (within the business day) of all assigned leads
  • Attend conventions, trade shows, in market customer events and varied industry functions to cultivate new business and maintain existing relationships
  • Attend various on-property promotional functions such as cocktail receptions, cookouts and/or FAM’s
  • Represent hotel in community affairs and industry related events
  • Maintain client base of key accounts and bookings. Follow up to solicit for repeat business
  • Develop and conduct persuasive verbal sales presentations to prospective clients and Marriott sellers
  • Efficient use of CITY for evaluating group needs: space availability, meeting details and group profitability while also maintaining the best interest of both the client and the hotel
  • Have full working knowledge of sales system procedures, including (but not limited to) generating reports, entering business, logging activities, blocking space and building accounts
  • Understanding of contract law and negotiating contracts
  • Conduct professional, thorough creative site inspections of the hotel with clients, exhibiting key features and benefits of the hotel
  • Advanced knowledge of market trends, competition and key customers of the hotel
  • Monitor production of all top accounts and evaluate trends within your account portfolio
  • Follow up on room block pickups, cut offs and VIP reservations
  • Produce activity reports as requested by DOSM
  • Participate in production of yearly marketing plan as it pertains to assigned market
  • Attend weekly sales meeting and all other meetings where attendance is required
  • Approach all encounters with guests and team members in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Participate as a team player with other departments and demonstrate hospitable behavior as a role model for all other team members
  • Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis including “off-peak” business hours maintaining a 47.5-hour work week
  • Preform any other job duties as assigned

Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

  • High school or equivalent education required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hotel sales experience
  • Must have experience at a similar size and quality hotel
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand
  • English. Must possess computer skills including but not limited to use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and ISAC and/or CITY. Advanced knowledge of sales skills, revenue management, training, and motivation of peers.
  • Advanced knowledge of hotel and competitive market
  • Ability to execute appropriate action plans
  • Must be willing to “pitch-in” and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player
  • Leadership skills to motivate and develop staff and to ensure accomplishments of goals
  • Able to set priorities, plan, organize, delegate and self-motivate
  • Written communication skills to be concise, well organized, complete, and clear
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints and deadlines

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to travel overnight and make outside sales calls
  • Able to stand/walk often
  • Able to lift/carry 20lbs
