Human Resources Generalist Job Description

Job Summary:

The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • May oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate staff in the department.
  • May assist with constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Training and Compliance:
    • Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, including safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and certifications.
  2. Recruitment and Hiring:
    • Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified candidates for open positions.
    • Collaborate with departmental managers to understand the skills and competencies required for job openings.
  3. Employee Onboarding and Recognition:
    • Conduct or oversee background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
    • Implement new hire orientation.
  4. Human Resource Administration:
    • Administer and execute human resource programs, including compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, disputes, investigations, performance management, talent management, productivity, recognition, morale, occupational health and safety, and training and development.
  5. Employee Relations:
    • Handle employment-related inquiries, referring complex matters to appropriate staff.
    • Attend and participate in disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
    • Assist managers in investigating workplace issues, identifying risks, and facilitating resolutions through employee relations programs.
  6. Legal Compliance and Best Practices:
    • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
    • Review policies and practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
    • Stay informed about trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  7. Data Management and Analysis:
    • Collect and maintain data from exit interviews, turnover statistics, and absenteeism reports.
    • Identify trends, training needs, and supervisory issues.
  8. Union Responsibilities:
    • Manage union reports and hiring processes.
    • Implement and manage best practices
  9. Ad-Hoc Duties:
    • Handle unexpected tasks and collaborate as needed to accomplish goals.
  10. Hybrid Role with Travel:
    • Travel to various properties within New York City for the following reasons:
      1. Attend meetings with managers across various properties to strengthen collaboration, align strategies, and address any human resources-related matters.
      2. Hiring events
      3. Grievances

Ensure compliance with relevant employment laws, hotel or company policies, and procedures. Your role includes investigating workplace issues, collecting data, and addressing employee relations matters to maintain a positive and compliant work environment.
