Posted: Open to internal and external applicants Reports to: Facilities Operations ManagerStatus: Full-time, hourly, benefitted positionHours of work: Sunday–Thursday workweek, 7:00-3:30. Occasional need for weekend or after-hours work as related to events and other projects.Date needed: ASAPPosting expires: Posted till FilledPosition description: The Seattle Aquarium, a leading marine conservation organization, is looking for a Custodian Supervisor to join the Facilities team. This position is a supervisory role with advanced knowledge of custodial duties and event procedures. As the Custodian Supervisor, you will direct the custodian team in performing day-to-day custodial, maintenance and event operations. Follows established Aquarium performance levels in a professional, safe, efficient manner. Key functions: 
  • Direct daily housekeeping and maintenance services in the facility.
  • Inspect work performed to ensure that it meets established standards.
  • Build working relationships across Aquarium departments.
  • Provide guidance and direction to team members, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Interviewing, selecting, hiring new custodial employees.
  • Maintain department schedules, including event schedules.
  • Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Utilize E-maintenance system for completion of service requests.
  • Knowledge of all chemicals and deep cleaning procedures.
  • Knowledge on how to use and maintain assigned power equipment, hand tools, buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets and furniture.
  • Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
  • Assist maintenance staff and event staff with special projects.
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
  • Assist in moving furniture and equipment.
  • Maintain outside areas, sidewalks, windows, walls, and trash removal, snow and ice removal etc.
  • Responsible for the hands-on day-to-day cleanliness of the building pursuant to the job duties specified by Seattle Aquarium, building engineers, maintenance staff and Facility Operations Manager.
  • Respond to urgent tenant and staff request for maintenance and custodial issues.
  • All Aquarium staff and volunteers are expected to participate in advancing and integrating into their work Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Regenerative practices in alignment with our S.A.L.I.S.H. Values.  
Required skills and experience: We will consider various combinations of relevant experience and education to meet minimum requirements.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • 2 or more years’ experience in custodial and basic facilities maintenance operations.
  • Comfortable with, and capable of, communicating in a variety of methods (written, verbal, non-verbal) within all levels of an organization.
  • Able to adapt personal communication styles to the needs of the audience. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Able to work independently or as a team member.
  • Basic skills in math, reading, and writing required.
  • Must possess a valid Washington Stage Driver’s license or able to obtain one.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the Aquarium’s Mission and Values, including Regenerative and Equity work.  
Working conditions:While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to fingers, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be asked to lift up to 35 pounds and may be required to “team lift” heavier weights. The vision requirements include ability to adjust focus, peripheral vision and close vision. Exposure to outside weather conditions and noise from machinery and visitors when Aquarium is busy. With notice, may be required to work evening shift for special events and other business needs. Must be able and willing to safely use of scissor lift and other power equipment to complete responsibilities. Salary and benefits: $28.00 to $31.50 per hour, Dependent on experience.
