Your Role With Us:

The Nutrition Services team is seeking a Chef to help ensure food is properly prepared, tasty, appealing, consistent, local and as seasonally driven as possible. Continually improving the healthiness of food offerings per Salem Health Healthy Hospital Initiative.

The Chef will act as the expert for all culinary services and make recommendations for enhancing our culinary strategy. The Chef will be responsible to make strategic menu improvements. The Chef must be able to engage with all levels, inspire teams, and promote results. They will lead and support Lean process improvement work with various teams and work groups and ensure the work is visible.

Core Functions:

  • Ensure all food standards and safety are upheld and a proper recipe and plate portioning is consistent.
  • Oversee the costing of recipes, development of new dishes and flavor profiles and ensure Salem Health food initiatives are being met.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health safety laws.
  • Actively drives a culture where every action is completed with a focus on delivering exceptional customer service and care to patients, families, employees, partners of Salem Health, and the surrounding community.
  • Knowledge of current Food Trends, Farm to Fork, Localvore and Food as Medicine/Culinary Medicine food movements.
  • Creates new concepts, vision and strategy development for following areas – Creekside Grill, WOD, Seasons, Deli, Bakery Program, Grab & Go offerings, Salad Bar, Building B Bistro program and Caterin

Background/Expertise:

  • Minimum of AOS in Culinary arts / Hospitality Management preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ of experience as a Chef required.
  • Hospital, college or large volume kitchen experience preferred.
  • American Culinary Federation, Certified Sous Chef Certification preferred.
  • Certified Dietary Manager degree preferred.
  • Must be ServSafe Food Certified(required), ServSafe Instructor/Proctor preferred.
