General Summary:
The Development Manager is Responsible for drafting narratives and compiling key documents for government, foundation, and corporate grant applications. Generates, maintains and reports on donation records in keeping with Agency goals. Reports directly to the Sr. Director of Development but supports all members of the Fund Development Team as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Stakeholder Interface and Service
- Participate in grant writing including preparation of letters of inquiry, proposals, research, budgets, reports, ancillary materials, general agency information, editing proposals for errors and inconsistencies and proposal submissions.
- Serve as contract liaison (ICCB, IDHS, Title XX and CDBG) between the agency and state and local government agencies. Working with program and accounting staff to prepare scope of work, budget and other documents for review/approval by General Counsel and submission to government agency and Quality. submission to the designated government agency, Program, Accounting and Quality departments.
Stakeholder Outreach and Recruitment
- Plan in-person or virtual site visits for potential funders; Schedule appointments for Leadership Team members, as needed, Program Managers and Development staff with potential funders.
- Assist in researching private and corporate funding prospects.
- Participate in grant writing including preparation of letters of inquiry, proposals, research, budgets, reports, ancillary materials, general agency information, editing proposals for errors and inconsistencies and proposal submissions.
- Manage existing grants by tracking; develop internal reporting systems; writing reports, maintaining excellent historical records.
- Research both locally and nationally and identify corporate and foundation prospects based on Safer’s priorities and core programs by reviewing web sites, annual reports, and Form 990s; assess their giving priorities, giving histories, and relationships.
- Monitoring government websites and bulletins to identify new federal, state, county & city funding opportunities.
- Support Safer's Season of Giving, an annual internal fundraiser for staff.
- Supports the Annual Holiday Appeal, coordinating efforts with the Marketing/Communications Team and outside vendor(s).
Individual Donor Management and Administration
- Develops and tracks proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising
- Develop print marketing collateral related to fundraising in collaboration with Marketing/Communications Team
Tracking, Document, and Reporting
- Manage existing grants by tracking; develop internal reporting systems; writing reports, maintaining excellent historical records
- Monitoring the websites and bulletins to identify new federal, state, county & city funding opportunities.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
At least three years of experience including knowledge of Proposal Development, Funding Research, Foundation/Corporate solicitations, Communications and Special Events.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Social Work or related field with 3 or more years of experience in grant writing including knowledge of Annual Giving, Foundation/Corporate solicitations, Deferred Giving, Communications and Special Events. Familiarity with Instrumentl, Grants.Gov, JustGrants, and grant portals a plus.
- Knowledge of fundraising information sources
- Experience with proposal writing
- Proven track record with institutional donors
- Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
- Excellent computer skills with all Microsoft office programs and Salesforce.
- Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
- Experience with budget development and monitoring
- Knowledge of the core elements of program development, contracts and agreements
