Detailed Job Description
The Human Resource Assistant (HRA) serves as the primary administrator of employee and position data for the university's 4000 employees. HRAs perform administrative tasks and services for the effective and efficient operations of RIT's Human Resources department supporting 4000 employees. HRAs enter, validate and audit a large volume of transactional employee and position related data for RIT and the Global Delivery Corp (GDC).
The HRA is responsible for the data integrity of employee and position records, and ensures that all appropriate related documentation and other operational requirements are met. The HRA administers time-sensitive data for payroll and reporting purposes and maintains confidentiality of employee records. Transactions are administered for all employees and positions including those who work onsite, in remote domestic (multi-state) and remote multinational locations. Often these transactions are complex and require the HRA to assess, interpret and escalate based on numerous legislative, regulatory and policy related requirements.
The HRA also provides customer service support to employees, departments and administrative staff in a specific group of colleges and divisions regarding HR transactions and processes. HRAs serve as the first point of contact in problem resolution and troubleshooting and interface regularly with RIT's Payroll Department, HR Managers, and HR Compensation and Talent Acquisition teams.
Responsibilities:
  • Process employee and position transactions within HRIS systems through direct data entry as well as through data validation of online entries under strict deadlines. Maintain accurate and timely associated documentation and confidential employee records. These transactions include hires, terminations, assignment and job changes, compensation changes, and remote work arrangements.
  • Provide customer service support to RIT managers, administrative staff and employees regarding HR processes and procedures and data maintenance. Answer frequently asked questions from departments, applicants and employees relative to standard policies, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
  • Perform data audits to ensure accurate and complete information recorded in HR systems.
  • Create and provide education to departmental administrators for HR transactions.
  • Document departmental processes and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • Associates Degree or equivalent experience
  • Three years of employee benefit administration experience or equivalent
Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail

  • Work independently in a fast paced environment
  • Able to manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications
