Position Title: Senior Director of Finance

Responsible To: Executive Director

Effective Date: December 5th, 2023

Salary Range: $90,000 to $122,000

Position Type: Full time, Salary, Exempt

Position Summary

The Senior Director of Finance provides strategic financial planning, leads and manages the budgeting process, and oversees all sides of an organization’s accounting operations. The position manages Provident’s financials, accounting, facility, building maintenance and environment of care functions to ensure effective operations, budgeting, control, reporting, and accounting for agency finances and assets, including retirement funds for Provident Behavioral Health and Mary Ryder Home. This position oversees the Business Office, Billing Office, and Facilities. The Senior Director of Finance provides support to each of our life changing, life saving programs on a daily basis by providing exceptional internal and external customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare the agency's annual operating budget and capital budget for both Provident and Mary Ryder Home through collaborative budgeting process. Present budgets to the Finance Committee, staff, and the Board of Directors. Manage budget and work with leadership and staff to ensure effective and efficient operations.
  • Manage an effective fiscal structure including the recording, reporting, and analysis of agency financial data. Develop and supervise accounting systems and procedures; monitor all expenditures; reviewing accounts to be charged and ensure that expenses and revenue are properly allocated within the agency's operations budget; and keep Executive Director advised of financial changes including projected income and expenses. Oversee monthly close process and procedures. Prepare monthly financial statements and present monthly financials and analysis to Finance Committee and leadership team.
  • Oversee/supervise the accounting, billing, and facility departments and hold regular department meetings
  • Acts as a strategic thought partner with the executive leadership team
  • Responsible for establishing and developing accounting and internal control procedures and policies
  • Analyze financial statements and communicate variances to leadership team
  • Works closely with board members by acting as the staff liaison for both the Finance Committee and the Investment Committee
  • Establishes and maintains vendor relationships for accounting, billing, and facilities
  • Responsible for all tax related compliance, including 5500’s and 990’s
  • Manages three financial audits annually
  • Prepares United Way budget and completes annual reporting requirements
  • Requests, reviews, and approves any facility related contracts or proposals
  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple priorities that materially impact outcomes for the organizations
  • Stay current on accounting rules and regulations
  • Establish and oversee procedures for billing practices, including establishing and educating staff on related policies and procedures.
  • Oversee manage the environment of care including physical facilities, buildings, agency properties and equipment, negotiate rental and lease agreements for properties and equipment and recommend purchases and replacements.
  • Perform other job related duties, as required or assigned.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related degree
  • CPA license preferred

Minimum Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years accounting experience
  • Prior management experience a must as this position supervises a variety of different roles from accounting to facility maintenance.

Preferred Experience:

  • 3 years with a not-for-profit background.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Directly supervise Director of Finance Position.

Other Skills Required:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of general ledger functions, accounts receivable and payable systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to lead teams and implement projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Ability to maintain strictest level of confidentiality.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Reliability and consistency
  • Accountability for individual, department, and agency performance
  • Proven ability to take responsibility and problem solve in a proactive manner.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with Provident’s multidisciplinary teams, leaders, and management staff.
