Oak View Group is Hiring a Director of Human Resources|Miami Beach Convention Center Near Miami, FL

Overview

The Director of Human Resources (DHR) oversees HR and IT at MBCC is an executive-level position reporting directly to the MBCC’s General Manager (GM). This role involves aligning key strategic and business objectives with employees and management while ensuring OVG policy adherence. Responsibilities include regulatory compliance management, Collective Bargaining Agreement oversight, employee recruitment, retention, and development, policy implementation, training, benefits administration and employee relations.

As a trusted consultant, the DHR collaborates with the MBCC OVG management team, addressing HR and IT needs. The role serves as an advocate for employees, a catalyst for change, and a strategic resource for the leadership team. This position requires an unconventional and innovative thinker, offering an excellent opportunity for someone with business acumen to positively disrupt business as usual at the MBCC and its campus.

This role will pay a salary of $110,000 to $125,000.

For FT roles: Benefits: Health, Dental and Vision insurance, 401(k) savings plan, 401(k) matching, and paid time off (vacation days, sick days, and 11 holidays).

Responsibilities

Human Resources

  • Serves as the main liaison between OVG’s Corporate HR and MBCC management, ensuring a cohesive HR department.
  • Adheres to OVG’s HR policies for legal compliance, partnering with OVG’s Corporate HR legal department when necessary.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and support to MBCC management, supervisors, and employees.
  • Analyzes HR trends with MBCC OVG management to develop programs, solutions, best practices and policies.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues, conducting thorough investigations.
  • Collaborates with OVG Corporate HR on EEOC complaints and legal matters.
  • Works closely with management and employees to enhance relationships, boost morale, improve productivity and retention.
  • Assist venue leaders with day-to-day performance management.
  • Offers guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning/training, and succession planning.
  • Manages recruitment processes, overseeing outreach, screening, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and ongoing retention efforts.
  • Manages and or supports all aspects of employee industry association participation and internship programs.
  • Maintains confidential employee records and addresses benefits-related inquiries.
  • Handles workers’ compensation matters and liaises with insurance carriers.
  • Participates in negotiating local union agreements, providing recommendations, and administering and interpreting union agreements.
  • Manages union-represented employee issues, including the grievance process.
  • Advises on changes in regulations and identifies training needs for MBCC employees and departments.
  • Identifies training needs and coordinates training programs, ensuring successful outcomes and conducts new employee orientations.

Information Technology:

  • With support from other staff and our internal/ external contract partners, oversees the MBCC technology services functions.
  • Managed and support the contract for Verizon cell phones, to include assisting with handling orders, account maintenance, and new cell phone setup.
  • Monitors and manages the IT-related budget and expenses.
  • Oversees compliance and renewal of vendor service contracts for technical services.
  • Assist with overseeing the complete IT equipment inventory in collaboration with the IT Department.
  • Purchases IT-related supplies, researching equipment specifications and verifies pricing.
  • Serve as a Microsoft 365 Administrator to include email access, SharePoint, and other MS Apps.
  • Evaluates IT training needs to improve efficiency and takes on other assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Oversight and management of the telecommunications venue contract.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direction and leadership to team members within the assigned department
  • Manage the recruitment, hiring, training development and retention of department employees.
  • Supervise, support and guide team members, including performance assessment, engagement, recognition, and addressing HR-related matters.
  • Execute supervisory responsibilities in compliance with OVG’s policies and relevant laws.
  • Contribute to the annual budget preparation, authorize expenditures, and monitor project costs.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to MBCC employees to ensure compliance with the local Code of Conduct.
  • Serve as a coach and mentor to the MBCC leadership team.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) from four-your college or university.
  • Master’s degree in business management, HR Management or relevant degree preferred.
  • A Minimum of 7 years' experience resolving complex employee relations issues. 
  • Solid knowledge of the principals and practices of human resources administration.
  • Solid knowledge of the principals and practices in Information Technology.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws. 
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Administration
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Familiarity with a union environment, highly desired but not required.

  • Proven work experience as Director of HR or Sr. HR Leadership position
  • Full understanding of all HR functions and best practices
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Strategic, analytical and goal oriented
  • Demonstrable experience with HR metrics
  • Thorough knowledge of labor legislation
  • Project and time management skills.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office products.
    • Experience with Windows Operating Systems
    • Familiar with other disciplines including Card Access System, CCTV, Audio Visual and Digital Signage, preferred, but ability to learn acceptable.
  • Experience with HRIS and payroll software.
  • Knowledge of Momentus EBMS preferred, but ability to learn acceptable.
  • Familiarity with PingHD (Spectrio) or similar digital media software, preferred but ability to learn acceptable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) credential, desired, but not required.
