The Sales Manager role is responsible for supervising and organizing the outside business development sales team and oversees the promotion of the company's brands via direct field sales activities. They are responsible for managing organizational sales by developing business plans, meeting planned goals, and coordinating our direct field outreach efforts to generate leads, sales opportunities, and sales revenues. It is also tasked with the onboarding, sales skill growth, and ongoing industry training of its salespeople. This role will be responsible for developing pricing strategies, identifying new customers, supporting lead generation efforts, and creating programs with our suppliers, in partnership with the Rapid Packaging marketing team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing organizational sales by developing a business plan that covers sales, revenue, and expense controls.
  • Meeting planned sales goals.
  • Setting individual sales targets with the sales team.
  • Tracking sales goals and reporting results, as necessary.
  • In person and direct oversight of the activities and performance of the sales team.
  • Coordinating with marketing on lead generation.
  • The ongoing training of direct reports
  • Developing Rapid Packaging’s sales team through motivation, coaching and product knowledge education.
  • Promoting the organization and products.
  • Understand Rapid Packaging’s ideal customers and how they relate to our products.
  • Design, develop and evolve processes and systems to improve and scale sales efforts.

Manager Activities:

The Sales Manager should expect to spend 20-25% in the office, supporting leadership strategy conversations, reporting on team performance, and completing administrative tasks. 75-80% of the week will be spent in the field with direct reports to support sales calls, prospecting efforts, training, and customer service conversations. This Sales Manager role is a “field manager” role. Rapid Packaging is a front-facing sales organization and expects the Sales Manager to guide sales activities side-by-side with our outside salespeople.

Additionally, the Sales Manager will travel on occasion in support of out state or out of state customers. Travel may also be requested for industry events and tradeshows.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
  • 3-5 years of sales experience and proven track record of successful sales accomplishments
  • Minimum of 1-2 years in a sales leadership or people management role
  • Previous experience in packaging industry helpful
  • Ability to set objectives and goals, to develop schedules, and task/people assignments; anticipating and adjusting for roadblocks, measuring performance against goals and evaluating results
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills in oral and written format
  • The ability to work in a team environment and communicate directly to customers
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software and other spreadsheet applications
  • Experience with CRM software
  • Above average ability to accurately calculate ratios, percentages, and mathematical computations
