SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Business Development Manager for our Chicago Group. You will lead the creation of new project opportunities by partnering with our group and market leaders in developing and executing positioning strategies with existing and potential customers. You will support our business development strategy, public relations, communications, and relationship building. This role will be engaged in a broad range of sales enablement efforts in alignment with our overall market strategy. Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills are vital as you will be interacting with team members, customers, and partners in an ever-changing environment. You should also display the ability to remain flexible, inventive, dedicated, and efficient with a significant amount of integrity and confidentiality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be actively engaged in the market, attending conferences, speaking engagements and industry events.
  • Establish and cultivate strategic business partnerships and customer relationships.
  • Function as the liaison amongst group leadership, business development, operations, pre-construction, and marketing.
  • Participate in strategic business planning; developing strategic positioning plans for the group to win work.
  • Directly interact with your customers, leverage insights, and communicate value propositions.
  • Develop and maintain deep and trusting relationships with current and potential partners including, but not limited to targeted customers, design professionals, partner companies, community leaders, and engineering firms.
  • Support the filtering of new customers and opportunities.
  • Support the project positioning activities of the business development team.
  • Develop and produce internal and external communication strategies, marketing, branding and presentations.
  • Provide insight into market sectors; perform market trends analysis; support market sector teams.
  • In relation to client development, take the lead in supporting our market leaders in their outreach to key customers and design partners and track and manage upcoming meetings and connection events.
  • Identify new market sector opportunities and potential future customers.
  • Familiarize yourself with the customer's project designs, estimates, schedules, and key terms to facilitate discussion with the customer.
  • Lead and support proposal responses to customers and initiate customer feedback.
  • Review RFP requirements independently and communicate requirements, risks, and strategy to successfully win and execute the work.
  • Complete Request for Proposals with 100% accuracy and compliance with the owner's specifications.
  • Engage with marketing teams to help guide Social Media presence and digital campaigns. Work with Marketing teams to create content marketing pieces and develop an intentional plan for content postings over time - leveraging content already created as well as ideate any new content.
  • Oversight of our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) efforts and support our market leads and teams in accurate and timely updates.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in marketing, sales operations, or related field.
  • Own and bring clarity to ambiguous information and situations, be a curious learner, develop expertise, and be an ambassador for the existing markets we serve.
  • Proven customer relationship-building skills, with developed local/regional/national business knowledge and relationships.
  • Knowledge of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
  • Detail orientation sufficient for data entry, reporting, financial projections for sales and selections, and market analysis.
  • Microsoft Office and CRM web application skills at an advanced level.
  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Travel of up to 30% of the time may be necessary to fulfill the objectives of the position.
