MHP is hiring a Director – Finance & Accounting to manage the day-to-day operation of Finance. Primary responsibilities include financial analysis and reporting, variance reporting, audit and internal control, asset and liability reconciliation and cash control along with staff mentoring and supervision. In addition, the Director – Finance & Accounting is also responsible for implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that MHP assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies and federal requirements.

The position is located at 833 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107, with an in hybrid schedule, Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. As an MHP employee, you will have access to the following benefits:

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Hires, trains, evaluates and develops staff in support of MHP operational plans and program specific policies and procedures; addresses and monitors the specific goals and assignments of each staff through regular supervisory meetings, celebrating successes, performance appraisal process, disciplinary processes, etc.
  • Responsible and accountable for having financial statements and statistical results accurately and consistently reported and prepared on an accrual basis in conformity with general accounting principles and in accordance with Mental Health Partnerships’ (MHP) policies and procedures.
  • Supports the department fiscal year Capital and Operating Expense budgeting process to be in alignment with Mental Health Partnerships’ goals and targets.
  • Accountable to maintain a system of internal/business controls which are designed to provide reasonable assurance to MHP Management and Board of Directors that the information presented is accurate, timely and reliable.
  • Oversees the monthly financial reporting and variance processes for departments. This includes the monthly review of departmental income and balance sheet statements.
  • Prepares financial or cash forecast. Works with department leadership to identify trends or potential issues. Communicates to department to discuss potential impact and create remediation plans.
  • Accountable for annual budget and current year projections including department and division R&E projections in a manner to project sufficient detail.
  • Works closely with departmental leadership to prepare budgets for new business or program expansions, including financial accountability, resource management, and evaluation of implementation requirements, including costs and net operating results.
  • Assists and supports departmental leadership in strategic and operational planning initiatives.
  • Oversees internal, external and regulatory audit processes.
  • Ensures that the Revenue and Expenditure is accurate (i.e., costs are properly matched to revenue, costs are recorded in the proper accounts) and statements are delivered to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts.
  • Attends critical meetings to review information with management team.
  • Ensure consistent, timely and accurate general ledger entries in accordance with GAAP, federal guidelines and other regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures that procedures and workflows for all finance practices are documented, followed, updated and disseminated to the agency as necessary.
  • Acts as the financial liaison with funding sources by responding to funder questions, providing requested reports, following up on open items and coordinating related audits as necessary.
  • Understand requirements of funding sources, including 4300 regulations, City of Philadelphia Sub recipient Guide, DPW guidelines and other specific contract requirements.
  • Coordinate the annual financial audits by ensuring that staff, assigned schedules and documentation is ready for review with CFO within 45 days of fiscal year end.
  • Completes funder and account drawdowns.
  • Coordinates the collection of information needed for 990 and BCO-10 preparation and filing.
  • Act as the backup for the payroll and billing processes.
  • Other duties as assigned to fulfill MHP’s mission.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master preferred.
  • 5 years of related accounting experience, experience within a non-profit setting strongly preferred.
  • 3 years of management/supervisory experience required (including managing functions, processes, and/or people in a work, internship or volunteer setting).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of job-relevant issues, products, systems, and processes.
  • Experience in analyzing business performance and developing financial plans within a manufacturing environment desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls and financial reporting required.
  • Effective project and process management skills as demonstrated from past work experience.
  • Must possess basic computer skills to perform job duties including desktop computing, e-mail, timesheet management, electronic health records, internet research, report generation, etc. and the ability to learn software applications relevant to your position.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Strong skillsets in oral and written communication, interpersonal relationships and teamwork, attention to detail, customer service, time management, autonomy, problem solving and organization.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with compensation data and sensitive financial matters.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Sit at a desk with ergonomically appropriate equipment for most of the work day.
  • Lift up to 15 lbs.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance and be available for flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends and/or work holidays/overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to travel within the community that may not be handicap accessible: walking and/or drive agency vehicles, depending on the needs of the program. Ability to use public transportation, move around inner-city neighborhoods daily, including in inclement weather, carry computer equipment, and ascend/descend stairs carrying computer equipment. Must be able to travel to all sites supported, and MHP’s main offices as needed.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Frequent talking and listening. Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly and accurately; possible exposure to loud and/or vulgar language and hostile gestures, given participant mental health diagnoses and challenges.
  • Remain awake during entire shift, including break times.
