Junior Accountant

Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) is seeking to appoint a full-time highly competent and organized professional for the position of Junior Accountant. The successful candidate will be detail and process-oriented, yet open to change and motivated by innovation. An ambitious self-starter with get-it-done attitude who strives for results and performs well under pressure. Must also have a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial statements and financial management processes, systems, and controls.

Job Responsibilities

• Enter invoices, vouchers, cash receipts and journal entries and generate accruals as directed by Controller and Accountant.
• Provide assistance with month-end financial processes to enable a timely close.
• Monitor bank and investment accounts.
• Prepare monthly reconciliation of bank statements against general ledger accounts.
• Perform various other accounting functions including creation of invoices, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets and balance sheet reconciliations as directed by Controller and Accountant.
• Assist annual audit and tax filing processes including retrieval and preparation of supporting documents.
• Generate weekly, monthly and ad hoc reports for financial tracking.
• Perform other duties and special projects, as needed.
• A passion for freedom of the press.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associates degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• 2 years’ experience in a similar role
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software – including Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Expensify
• Experience with or exposure to not-for-profit grant accounting
• Experience with or exposure to investment fund accounting
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills
• Detail oriented

Total Compensation includes

Reimbursement Range - $25/hr - $35/h commensurate with experience
