Martin Hood is Hiring a Human Resources Manager Near Champaign, IL

M|H (formerly known as Martin Hood) is one of the largest locally owned public accounting firms in Central Illinois, offering a full range of assurance, tax, and advisory services to our clients. We are looking for a high impact human resources manager to lead our human resources and talent strategies.

M|H is growing with over 70 employees located in Champaign, Peoria, and remote locations. This position will be based in our Champaign office.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the firm’s human resources and talent strategies particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, talent development, and succession planning.
  • Manages the recruiting process, which includes sourcing, assessing, and hiring qualified campus and experienced candidates; collaborates with hiring managers to understand skills and competencies necessary to meet the needs of the firm. Develops and implements strategies to source candidates through the use of technology and other resources. Establishes effective working relationships with university career centers to build a pipeline of campus candidates. Manages relationships with third-party recruiters to identify potential experienced candidates.
  • Leads the onboarding and orientation process for new employees focusing on providing a positive and welcoming experience that successfully transitions employees into their new role with the firm.
  • Responsible for executing the performance management process which includes making sure employees receive timely and relevant feedback, that promotions and compensation decisions are based upon performance outcomes, and that career coaches are successful in managing the performance and career development of their coachees.
  • Provides leadership to the talent development committee focused on identifying the training and development needs of the firm and working with leadership to allocate the necessary resources to meet these needs.
  • Cultivates a vibrant and inclusive culture that fosters fulfillment and belonging for all employees, including those working remotely.
  • Manages the firm’s human resources information systems to perform routine administrative tasks and to maintain compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Administers the employee benefit plans including working with the CFO to manage the annual renewal process, annual open enrollment, and daily administration of benefits.
  • Provides support and guidance to management, and other team members when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations and investigating allegations of wrongdoing.
  • Oversees employee relations activities including employee coaching/counseling meetings, investigations, and terminations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other applications as needed.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the firm’s HRIS and talent management systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Candidates for this position must possess several years of experience in the human resources field with demonstrated competence in developing and executing successful human resources and talent strategies.
  • Current certification as a human resources professional preferred.
