Overview

We are seeking full-time candidates for a Manager of Software Engineering based out of Mariner’s Overland Park, Kansas headquarters. The manager\developer position oversees a growing data-centric team specializing in systems integrations, business-automation, and building enterprise applications supporting Mariner’s business intelligence, wealth management, trading, and operational platforms. As a team leader you are responsible for architecting solutions to enterprise problems, managing delivery of team projects, and enforcing quality and scalable engineering practices across the teams. This position works closely with Mariner’s data engineers, reporting analysts, and back-office teams to provide specialized tools and solutions, prototype new practices and processes, and coaching developers across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Architect technical solutions to enterprise problems and integration challenges, explore requirements with business leaders to define projects and tasks, manage the execution of projects within the team, and coordinate deployment and support

• Provide tactical project management, coaching, code-reviews, and enforce consistent patterns and processes over those projects

• Oversee all elements of the software lifecycle and manage the group’s source-control, testing, builds, deployments, and tooling.

• Manage a mix of staff developers and contractors

• Continue to build the team and it’s resources, provide oversight, mentoring, and coaching to developers across the organization

• Employee a mix of traditional development (Python, Java/Go, etc), SAAS and cloud Platforms (AWS/Snowflake), low-code platforms (Alteryx, BPMs), automation scripting (ActiveBatch), and best-of-breed enterprise vendors to weave together scalable solutions to complex problems.

• Provide ongoing support of existing systems and development infrastructure, including maintenance and troubleshooting

• Managing relationships with third-party providers and vendors

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent) or 10 years relevant experience

• 7 years’ experience in software development, data engineering, or related areas

• 2 years' managing developers\engineer

• Prior experience in the financial service industry preferred 

Skills & knowledge 

• Experience building and working with APIs and back-end platforms, data-driven applications, and automations

• Professional experience in Python, Java/C#, Go, or equivalent languages

• Experience with SAAS and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and building/consuming APIs

• Familiarity with relation databases (SQL, Snowflake, MS-SQLServer, Redshift, etc) and data engineering tools (DBT, Spark, Pandas, Alteryx, etc).

• Experience with project management and workflow tools such as Agile, Jira, YouTrack

• Stellar troubleshooting skills with the ability to spot problems before they become issues
