The Engineering Technician in Utilities performs detailed activities on assigned projects to develop plan sets, detail drawings, calculations and redline comments, and adheres to schedule and accuracy requirements.

Essential Functions

• Works within a project design team to understand clients, project objectives and is a productive member of that team, offering suggestions for improvement, meeting deadlines, and performing quality work
• Sets up file structures to produce CAD drawings in accordance with client or BHC standards
• Interprets field “red marks” and engineer or designer sketches and understands design intentions behind them
• Produces CAD work in AutoCAD Civil 3D or Microstation from designer mark ups that is accurate and properly laid out (correct scales, good use of the drawing spaces, good proportion between details, etc.). Such work would include planimetrics, details, profiles, isometrics, perspectives, base maps, annotated text boxes, etc.
• Produces project base drawings from survey field topographic data
• Understands basic GIS environment and file formats and is able to apply them to the CAD environment, or export/adapt CAD formats into a GIS environment when necessary
• Able to interpret CAD drawings from multiple sources - design firm’s proposed drawing set, utility as-builts, surveys, plat maps, etc.
• Produces spreadsheets for data management and importing into the CAD files
• Possesses an understanding of the OSP/ISP discipline and its design process, or is willing to learn that discipline through work experience
• Prepares preliminary base maps to be used by the designer when fielding that identify design issues based on preliminary office research/investigation using surveys, plat maps, aerial imagery,
• Street View review, etc. to improve design quality and reduce duration of field time
• Uses knowledge to work independently. However, uses good judgment in seeking help/answers to questions from project supervisor when necessary
• Shows continued and progressive professional development inside and outside of BHC
• Demonstrates a client focus and works to help our clients be successful

Qualifications

Experience

• 0 years of industry related experience
• Strong understanding of construction systems and techniques and industry standards a plus

Skills

• Ability to produce error free drawings without sacrificing production volume
• Excellent communication skills, team player, detail oriented, motivated
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office knowledge
• Ability to manage a fair workload by staying focused and managing priorities

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Associate or 2-year technical degree or equivalent preferred
• CAD certification and experience in Civil 3D a plus
• Proficiency in algebra and trigonometry preferred
