Marine Well Containment Company is Hiring a Financial Accounting Analyst Near Houston, TX

Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC) was founded after the 2010 Deepwater Horizon well control incident to provide the response capabilities needed if a similar event occurs in the future. MWCC is a Limited Liability Corporation that is owned by ten (10) of the most active drillers in the Gulf of Mexico.

Position Overview & Responsibilities

The Financial Accounting Analyst is responsible for the accurate recording, analysis, and reporting of financial transactions. They will be a key member of the finance team responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing internal and external financial reports, and supporting various financial processes within the organization. They will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

  • Responsible for recording and classifying financial transactions accurately and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with vendors on financial transactions and related matters, and maintain positive relationships
  • Provide financial support, including forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing budget variances
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and relevant regulations
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounting processes and procedures
  • Stay updated on accounting standards and regulations to ensure compliance
  • Process vendor invoices and manage their payment

 Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Work as a member of the MWCC Emergency Response Organization on an as needed basis in the event of activation or preparation/drills for same, in response to a well control incident, and perform job duties commensurate with your assigned role
  • Participate in month-end and year-end closing procedures, including Operation’s accruals and adjustments, ensuring all financial transactions are properly recorded and reported
  • Manage the accounting for time confirmation costs which includes collaboration with the Operation’s department on the monthly close deadline, and determination of the monthly accrual based on costs billed
  • Monitor and analyze Operation’s expenses, highlighting any variances or discrepancies for further investigation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely recording of transactions and internal reporting of financial results
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and identify and resolve any discrepancies to ensure accuracy
  • Prepare Operation’s monthly business review report which includes collaboration with departments to obtain plan to actual variance explanations and updated forecasts
  • Provide overall accounting support to the Operation’s department which includes preparing internal reports, costs analysis, providing accounting technical guidance
  • Accounting for prepayments related to Shore Base fixed fees and lifting which includes recording monthly amortization and tracking crane usage and ensuring receipt of proper vendor crane credits
  • Prepare Operation’s actual to plan report for leadership’s review of monthly financial results
  • Process certain vendor invoices which includes performing service receipts and collaborating with the Operation’s department on PO addendums and increasing work order budgets
  • Review the Shore Base vendor invoices and ensure costs are coded to the correct work orders and\or purchase orders
  • Collaborate with the Operation’s department on their annual budget which includes setting up meetings to discuss costs with the COO, making and tracking changes to the budget file, and the preparation of a consolidated budget that is presented to the CEO and CFO
  • Assist in the preparation of audit schedules and provide support during external and member audits
  • Back up other team members’ responsibilities when needed

Response Specific Responsibilities

Below are the responsibilities for this position related to and during the timeframe MWCC is activated to respond to a well control incident in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

  • Provide accounting support to Deployment
  • Process vendor incident cost invoices
  • Assist in the tracking, reporting, and forecasting of incident costs
  • Back up other section team members’ responsibilities as needed

General Background, Qualifications, & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of previous accounting experience
  • Experience working in the offshore oil and gas industry
  • SAP experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with intermediate knowledge of formulas for data analysis
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word for preparing reports and presentations
  • Is a team player and has a collaborative working style
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Has a strong results orientation and personal accountability
  • Displays innovation with a curiosity and openness to new ideas
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Maintains effectiveness in a changing environment
