THE OPPORTUNITY
Kipsu is seeking a Vice President of Engineering to join our Engineering team. In this role, you’ll play a unique and interesting role in a high growth, leading edge Minneapolis based software company. The VP of Engineering will oversee all aspects of core software application development.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Overseeing managers that are leading teams responsible for the delivery of new software capabilities, enhancements and integrations
  • Overseeing the program management and planning efforts for application software delivery, including capacity planning, prioritization, status reporting and issue resolution
  • Reporting directly to Kipsu’s CEO and engaging with Kipsu’s business line executives
  • Partnering with Kipsu’s CTO - who is responsible for technical architecture, DevOps and research functions
  • - to translate the company’s technical strategy into working product features
  • Directing Kipsu’s Quality Assurance Manager and help mature the QA function to cover Kipsu’s growing code base
  • Working closely with Kipsu’s CEO and Director of Product to estimate projects, validate the technical implementation of product designs and scope work to optimize delivery to meet customer objectives
  • Managing our monthly prioritization process to ensure that engineering activities and deliverables are aligned with business priorities and providing optimal engineering output
  • Mentoring and coaching team members, including identifying skill gaps and providing growth opportunities
  • Participating in the talent management planning of the engineering team, crafting role definitions and engaging in the hiring and selection process
  • Providing regular updates on the status of engineering initiatives to Kipsu’s customer facing team members and our customers
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We will favor candidates that have the following characteristics and background:
  • 12 years of experience
  • 7 years of experience in a technology leadership role, specifically leading multiple teams
  • BS/BA in a technical or STEM field; a Master’s degree is a plus
  • Deep web application and mobile development experience
  • Highly process-driven and analytical; comfortable working on creating system that can be executed consistently across a large customer base
  • Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota - ability to work on-site with our locally based team
  • An enthusiastic individual that enjoys developing and mentoring managers to drive performance
  • A hands on technology leader comfortable engaging with business and technical leaders to identify objectives, weigh competing approaches and drive consensus on engineering priorities
  • Able to modulate approach to Kipsu’s varying product line teams and address the urgency, structure and predictability required for vertical market solutions that have different levels of market maturity
  • Demonstrated background in working in environments that are deadline driven and capable of making commitments to work that is in the planning stages and will be executed on in the future
  • Thinks customer first, both internally and externally, to prioritize customer needs and ensure that Kipsu’s customers get the best experience in working with our company
  • - which may include attention occasionally during out-of-hours times
  • Able to see the big picture beyond the Engineering team, taking into account customer expectations, company goals, and external pressures and translating the vision to the Engineering execution
  • Well versed in customer and customer facing communication
  • Able to use data to characterize engineering performance and improve ability to estimate wor, size the team to meet engineering demand and improve ability to meet commitments
  • Has a builder mentality and seeks an environment with a long term commitment to its business, category and customers
  • Someone who thinks intentionally about what makes a productive, inclusive and positive Engineering culture
