Overview

ANNUAL SALARY

$145,000 - $150,000 (DOE)

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, the ideal candidate will act as a business partner to senior leadership, employee champion, and expert HR resource to guide and mentor the Retail HR team. We are looking for a tech-savvy highly organized leader to manage day-to-day HR operations and provide long-term strategy - Torrance Office.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • Bachelor's degree or minimum of equivalent experience in Human Resources Management, 7 years in Employee Relations, or 6 years in legal practice required.
  • Graduate degree in Human Resources Management desired
  • HR industry certification (SPHR,PHR, SHRM-CP/SCP) highly preferred
  • Experience managing an HR team and/or processes. 
  • Demonstrated consultative/credibility assessment skills In depth knowledge of employment laws, including ADA required.
  • Ability to proactively share a point of view, appropriately challenge assumptions, and take initiative.
  • Proven ability to manage conflict/challenge thinking.
  • Proven business acumen, strong decision-making, and root cause/analysis skills
  • Ability to assess sensitive and complex employee relations issues in a confidential, objective, and systematic manner.
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of federal and state labor and employment related laws, regulations, policies, principles, concepts, and practices In-house Employee Relations leadership experience in a highly matrixed organization; especially in California
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong coaching and management skills
  • Ability to research and stay on top of legal changes in the states we have locations and disseminate those changes and required procedures to stay compliant to the HR team and senior leadership.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work and the work of others on the team.
  • Ability to work strategically while maintaining attention to detail.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote knowledge, understanding, and compliance with regards to company policy and relevant employment laws through coaching, presentations, and training.
  • Identify opportunities to influence and impact the employee experience at HHEI in a multitude of ways, including h investigations are managed; Contributions to policy and training; Acting as a consultant and advisor to HHEI Human Resources teams on a variety of topics from on-boarding, critical life moments, conflict resolution, performance management, and complex accommodations.
  • Provide best in class and consistent practices and processes for ER issues including investigative and accommodation matters, including: Working closely with District Managers and Store Managers to develop investigation plans; Conducting high level, complex investigations; Consulting with District Managers to discuss solutions and working with Legal when appropriate; Delivering findings and making recommendations to resolve issues; Preparing appropriate documentation, including for union employees.
  • Provide overall leadership and guidance across the organization by overseeing talent acquisition, employment law compliance (in conjunction with legal counsel), training and leadership development, leave of absence and ADA, and benefits and compensation.
  • Function as a strategic HR business advisor to the senior management team and HR managers
  • Develop initiatives, policies, and programs to complement existing practices and create consistency across the organization.
  • Oversee benefit and compensation plans to ensure cost efficiencies and attractiveness to retain top talent.
  • Manage and improve performance management system along with rewards and recognition programs, employee engagement and effective mechanisms to receive and act on staff feedback.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide direction, coaching, feedback and mentoring on the development, execution, and measurement of individual and team performance.
  • Counsel and coach HR managers and leadership on employee-related issues, appropriately investigate and resolve escalated grievances and complaints.
  • Manage a staff, handle, and oversee all aspects of HR Resources, Legal Compliance, HR vendor relationships and special projects, data analysis and reporting.
  • Champion and manage projects to improve efficiency and employee experience across the organization.
  • Recommend and hire HR staff as needed to support the growing organization.
  • Manage day-to-day HR functions including payroll processing, benefits and systems administration, employment records, employee communications, and training events.
  • Utilize and manage the use of our internal HR ticketing system (Zendesk) and knowledge base, ensuring the HR team follows up timely with employee requests.
  • Be a super user of ADP Workforce Now to ensure proper permissions are maintained and HR staff is operating and utilizing the system effectively (ADP Workforce Now is our HRIS system and all employee records including onboarding and personnel files are housed in ADP)
  • Maintain and enforce the use of our HR shared folder system to ensure all company records are accessible across the HR team and not housed on individual computers.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving, decision-making, and integration skills.
  • Proven experience in managing multiple projects with strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
