Hank's Oyster Bar is Hiring an Assistant General Manager Near Alexandria, VA

Jamie Leeds Restaurant Group, home to award winning Hank's Oyster Bar, has an immediate opening for an Assistant General Manager at our Old Town, Alexandria location in the heart of the Old Town North neighborhood.

THE ROLE As a leader of the front of house operations, the Assistant General Manager works with the property team to communicate, drive, and measure productivity and effectiveness in achieving the overarching financial, employee, and guest satisfaction goals of Hank’s Oyster Bar, Old Town Alexandria while adhering to all Jamie Leeds Restaurant Group guidelines and policies.Specifically, the Assistant General Manager is directly responsible for:

  • Supporting the General Manager in hiring, training, and supervising all front-of-house team members, with a specific focus on the bar team.
  • Acts as a role model for outstanding service; continuously works to elevate service standards and personally embodies hospitality in daily actions. 
  • Creates and maintains bar schedule and work assignments to ensure appropriate coverage within budgetary guidelines. 
  • Submits schedule to General Manager for approval. 
  • Participates in training of front-of-house staff in all menu offerings and driving the restaurant’s service standards. 
  • Able to perform all POS functions, including opening and closing procedures, comps, voids, and transfers, and back of house administration (menu management, etc.). 
  • Conducts pre-shift meetings and ensures team is prepared for every shift. 
  • Reviews daily time punches for accuracy; address time clock abuse (clocking in early or late) via coaching and/or documentation. 
  • During service, manages customer relationships, providing support to service team as needed and mitigating any guest concerns with the highest possible level of service and hospitality. 
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of all food and beverages; can describe menu accurately and attractively. 
  • Coordinates with management and back-of-house team members to ensure timely service, food quality, and overall organization and cleanliness. 
  • Attends mandatory meetings, including staff meetings, leadership meetings, etc.
  • Demonstrates positive leadership characteristics that inspire team members to meet and exceed the Company’s hospitality standards. 
  • Completes any additional tasks as assigned by management. 
  • Executing and maintaining our Core Beverage program
  • Ordering and weekly inventory of all liquor, beer, wine, soft drinks, juice, coffee, and N/A beverages
  • Ensuring flawless execution of private events in conjunction with the culinary team
  • Other assigned tasks as needed to drive employee and guest satisfaction

Physical Demands 

  • Seeing, hearing, and speaking. 
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. 
  • Able to walk, stand, and/or bend continuously and for extended periods as required to perform essential job functions.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Our ideal candidate possesses a strong knowledge of food & beverage operations and profitability with a focus on bar management. They are outgoing, hospitable, and truly embody our guest first mentality, providing goodness to people through food and beverage. 

  • Minimum of 2 years of Assistant General Manager experience in a high-volume, beverage centric restaurant: 200-300 covers per day, 4M - 5M in annual sales.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Adaptable in fast-paced and challenging work environment.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, per the needs of the business.
  • Ability to perform essential job and maintain professionalism when working under pressure.
  • Proven financial literacy with experience managing restaurant budgets.
  • Working knowledge of the following systems: TOAST, Craftable, Microsoft 365 and TEAMS
