Frazer, a leading builder of emergency medical vehicles, is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. The Mechanical Engineer at Frazer reports to the Engineering Manager, and is responsible for providing technical expertise to the engineering team. This position is responsible for providing general and mechanical engineering subject matter expertise, detailed design support, and technical assistance. This position will serve as the subject matter expert for mechanical design and integration, root cause analysis, and hands-on troubleshooting. This position will support day-to-day engineering demands and select projects.

What Does a Week in the Life of the Mechanical Engineer Look Like?

  1. Design, develop, and execute test and evaluation protocols for mechanical, electrical, structural, and automotive equipment, components, assemblies, or systems. 
  2. Apply mathematical and engineering principles and methods.
  3. Perform extensive testing and evaluation of designs to ensure reliability, performance, and safety standards are achieved. 
  4. Conduct research and studies new technologies for new and legacy products.
  5. Serve as project manager for the Frazer Certification & Standards Program. 
  6. Advise on system integration issues across vehicle platforms and products.
  7. Advise disposition of new and non-conforming equipment items.
  8. Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and other third parties.
  9. Complete work assignments promptly.
  10. Document and maintain plans, reports, drawings, specifications, instructions, procedures, and guidelines.
  11. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
  12. Essential duties listed above are performed while encouraging a Safety First atmosphere and supporting safety initiatives at our Facility.

Secondary Duties:

  1. Support designated projects and improvement initiatives.
  2. Participate in engineering staff meetings 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience working with engineering professionals – engineers, technicians, drafters. 
  • Ability to collaborate with other engineering disciplines – mechanical, structural, automotive, and certification. 
  • Ability to work in a process driven environment – quality, supply chain, production, and engineering.
  • Experience managing single and multi-phase projects.
  • Experience in the following engineering practices: estimation (time & cost), design and configuration development, bill of material development, manufacturing sequence development, systems design, sustainment and maintenance, and test and evaluation.
  • Experience working with ERP and MRP enterprise systems.
  • Experience creating, using, modifying, archiving technical documentation.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree with 5 years of experience showing progressing increases in technical responsibility. 
  • Electrical Vehicle design and/or assembly certifications.
  • AutoCAD and Solidworks or Inventor skills
  • Conceptual knowledge of custom vehicle production experience

Software Knowledge

Also, here are a few software packages that the Mechanical Engineer would eventually need to be versed in. Don’t worry . . . we expect some on-the-job training.

  • Google G-Suite (Gmail, Documents, Drive, Spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Kronos (HRIS)
  • ERP and MRP enterprise systems

Oh, and $alary

Of course, we didn't forget salary… Frazer offers competitive pay and this role will start with a salary between $67,000-$80,000 annually depending on education, certifications, and experience.

Work Schedule 

The Mechanical Engineer will work Monday-Friday 7:00 AM-3:30 PM. Frazer currently runs two shifts, Monday through Friday with overtime on weekend work as needed. Late afternoon/evening/weekend hours may be required as needed. Work schedules may change to accommodate production needs.
