Role
Within Workplace Consulting’s Center of Excellence (COE) organization, the Historical Calc Team Senior Retirement Analyst is responsible for the administration of defined benefit (DB) retirement plans on behalf of our clients and their participants. Analyzing, performing, and reviewing non-automated complex calculations manually (e.g., determination of historical service values, calculation of historical accrued benefits, etc.)
Completing client requests, preparing calculation summaries and explanations to respond to participant inquiries, and analyzing/solving data and other sophisticated issues
Participating in special projects (e.g., new client implementation, divestitures, mergers, corporate actions, etc.) related to DB administration services
Providing ad hoc manual calculation support for a variety of clients and plan participants
Performing the final quality review of work completed by other team members to ensure the finished product is accurate and of the highest quality
Reading and interpreting client plan documents, sample calculations, SPDs, plan provisions, and other documentation
Coaching and mentoring junior staff
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
10 years of defined benefit experience working for a benefits consulting firm or plan sponsor
Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
Leadership, mentoring, and coaching ability
Exemplary critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Leadership with self-motivation and determination to succeed
Keen written and verbal communications skills
Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment while meeting standards outlined in the applicable client service level agreement
Ability to work within budgeted timeframes to maintain client profitability without sacrificing quality
Experience working with pension plan documents, calculation rules/procedures, and other formal documentation
Ability to follow existing procedures, but have the continuous improvement mentality to evolve/advance to improve the process
Technically inclined with Microsoft Excel and Word applications
Experience working directly with, or personally programming, DB calculation algorithms in Excel or other pension administration software applications
Ability to query, modify, set-up, and review test cases used to test pension administration systems
Leading the discovery and learning of the mechanics of how a client’s DB Plan operates
Experience actively capturing information from clients and third parties, framing questions, and covering all possible scenarios under the DB Plans
This role will reside within Workplace Consulting’s Center of Excellence (COE) organization on the Historical Calc Team. You will be responsible for managing the manual and non-automated calculations for multiple Defined Benefit clients, business reporting, adhering to contractual obligations, and facilitating internal scale & efficiency initiatives for your assigned clients. You also will be responsible for many aspects of peer review and final approval. You will support the COE’s interests in collaborating with the cross product/functional subject matter experts, and other lines of business. You will work to tackle problems and be empowered to make decisions based on trends, issues, and business drivers.
The base salary range for this position is $63,000-$100,000 per year.Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.
Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
