EdFirst MN is Hiring a Director of Special Education Near Saint Paul, MN

EdFirst is searching for a Special Education Director to join our team. The program director will be responsible for monitoring and overseeing all aspects of the special education programs and services. The special education director will work closely with the building administrative team and the special education staff to ensure effective special education programming and leadership in special education, due process monitoring and compliance, and management of department administrative tasks.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Program planning and implementation

  • Ensure District follows federal & state regulations regarding students with IEPs.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Total Special Education System (TSES).
  • Provide due process compliance training to exceptional education staff.
  • Participate in advanced dispute resolution meetings, including conciliation, facilitation, mediation, IEP meetings, Due Process Hearings and Complaints.
  • Facilitate Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) meetings with parents.
  • Provide parents with culturally responsive training about special education.
  • Facilitate special education department meetings with special education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and school administrators.
  • Support MTSS and child study teams with interventions and evaluations.
  • Review fiscal procedures and oversee the special education budget, revenue and expenditures.
  • Meet with the school accountant to review SEDRA/MEGS to maintain accurate data entry.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of special education issues, changes in the federal and state law
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, parents, and community members
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with the admininstrative team, school staff, related service providers, and families
  • Ability to problem solve with team members and use conflict resolution skills

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Special Education or related area
  • At least five years successful special education teaching experience
  • Director of Special Education licensure
