Position OverviewThe Director of Human Resources (DHR) enables the CISNC mission by directing the Human Resource function of the organization and stewarding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts. This leadership position ensures that Communities In Schools retains a stellar reputation for strong HR management and mitigates risk.
The Director of HR leads efforts for developing and executing human resource work in support specifically in the areas of compliance and reporting, policy creation/improvement, employee relations, talent management, benefits package administration, performance management, and compensation. The Director of HR is responsible for directing all of the people functions of the organization in accordance with the organization’s policies, practices and federal, state and local laws.
Will serve as a key contributor and advisor to senior leadership by understanding the practices best suited to support the CISNC mission. The Director HR serves as liaison between executive and middle management on organizational issues and participates as a member of the Leadership Team. DHR will also serve as the liaison for the HR committee of the Board of Directors.
Essential DutiesCore HR (40% of time)
  • Oversees HR function of organization around full life cycle of employment from recruiting through exit.
  • Participate in cross-functional HR projects (succession planning, implementation science, training, recruitment plans, network relations, staff development planning, board committee support etc.)
  • Enhance, develop and implement appropriate HR systems, policies and procedures for effective management of team in all areas including employee relations, retention, and performance management.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive compensation and benefits plans that are equitable, competitive and cost effective for the organization.
  • Ensure HR compliance (federal and state law, benefits, etc.)
  • Support CIS Network with HR best practices as needed.
  • Steward Diversity, Equity and Inclusion practices with a lens of building belonging across the organization.
HR Administration (20% of time)
  • Serve as the plan administrator for health and 403(b) plans. Works with finance to ensure all payroll and benefits information is accurate for the team.
Talent Development (30% of time)
  • Collaborate with team on company training, management development, and department cross-training.
  • Establish and oversee the standard recruiting and hiring practices of the organization
  • Ensure all team members are onboarded and offboarded effectively with support from HR team
  • Develop and identify competencies needed for all internal roles of the organization, align interview protocols and support cross-functional hiring team process to foster organizational inclusion.
  • Monitor, advises, supports and coach people managers in employee supervision and/or progressive discipline measures, including terminations.
Information Technology (10% of time)
  • Serve as a contact for the IT service provider in managing services and project outcomes in partnership with Finance Department.
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field or equivalent job experience.
  • 5 years of HR experience, 3 as a Generalist, nonprofit experience a plus
  • PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification a plus.
  • Solutions oriented with the ability to build relationships across a cross- functional team of diverse styles, skill sets and experience levels.
  • Creative problem solving and strategic thinking skills with strong business acumen.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing business requirements.
  • Strong project management skills, team orientation, commitment to service and quality.
  • Technology savvy in HR Systems, Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and SharePoint.
