City Year is Hiring a Remote Managing Director, Development

Number of Positions: 1 Work Location: Hybrid On-Site/Remote Position Overview Reporting to the Executive Director, as a member of the site’s Executive Leadership Team, the Managing Director, Development (MDD) will lead a team of seven and is responsible for developing and implementing the development and communications strategy for City Year Seattle / King County to raise and sustain at least $2.5M from the private sector in FY24 and grow annually. The MDD will develop and execute strategic, diversified development plans to raise funds through grant writing, individual giving, and institutional partners, such as corporations and foundations. We are seeking a colleague who is motivated by City Year Seattle’s commitment to become an anti-racist and youth centered organization and excited to join us in reimagining how we approach our development work in a way that centers and celebrates the communities we serve. A successful candidate will be a strong relationship builder who is excited by the opportunity to take a strong development and communications program to the next level. The salary range for this role is $130,000 - $135,000. Job Description Responsibilities Fundraising Strategy: In partnership with the Executive Director and the City Year Seattle / King County site board and development teammates, leverage and enhance the site’s existing, multi-year development plan to implement a strategic and diversified fundraising plan that meets the current goal of raising $2.5M from the private sector and anticipates future needs and growth objectives. Develop strategies to identify and secure partnerships with corporations and foundations that reflect their marketing and business needs as well as philanthropic and community engagement goals. Create strategies to identify and secure new individual supporters, fully leverage existing relationships, increase multi-year commitments, and maintain or elevate current commitments. Team Leadership: Lead and coach a Development Team of seven. Directly supervise Senior Major Gifts Officer, Corporate Development Director, and Development Operations and Communications Manager and Civic Engagement Manager. Utilize City Year’s nationally supported portfolio management process and fundraiser metrics to support frontline fundraisers. Support career growth and professional development for a diverse staff. Portfolio Management: Own portfolio prospects with $25,000 capacity for giving, with a focus on prospects capable of giving $100,000 . Achieve 75 meaningful contacts with portfolio prospects annually and make 25 intentional asks. Board Management: In concert with the Executive Director, the MDD will engage the Board to meet critical financial and advocacy goals for the organization. Serve as primary relationship manager for Development Committee or development focused board members. Maintain engagement (both financially and otherwise) to ensure Board retention and satisfaction. Events and Civic Engagement Program Strategy and Leadership: In partnership with site leadership and development teammates, drive strategies to leverage large-scale fundraising events, including our annual Ripples of Hope fundraiser and service project, as well as smaller events to thoughtfully engage donor communities. Also, directly support the Civic Engagement Program Manager, who manages two AmeriCorps Members, to leverage large- and small-scale physical service projects for sponsoring groups. Organizational Management: Help shape organizational strategy and play a leadership role in implementing the site’s local operating plan as a member of the Executive Leadership Team. Work collaboratively with other site departments (People and Operations and Impact) on a frequent basis and with City Year’s national and regional staff. Represent, respect, and role-model City Year’s organizational culture and values on a daily basis, both internally as a member of the site Senior Leadership Team, and externally as a primary representative of the organization Marketing and Communications: In partnership with the Development Operations and Communications Manager, lead overall marketing and communications strategy for the site. Leverage available channels (email, social media, direct mail, etc.), to enhance City Year’s brand in the local community and increase connection to key donor audiences. Development Operations: In partnership with the Development Operations and Communications Manager, support development business processes from donor identification through to stewardship, ensuring accurate maintenance of records and donor information in the Salesforce database. Direct monthly pipeline meetings with the Development team and Executive Director to provide updated revenue figures, pipeline reports, and progress towards monthly/quarterly goals. Identify areas for operational improvements and drive continual improvements of processes Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or previous relevant experience 5 years of fundraising experience Track record of success in fundraising, including securing six figure gifts Experience leading Board members and staff to support and engage in a development strategy Experience leading diverse teams and commitment to continued racial equity learning. Experience managing and motivating a team to achieve goals Strong interpersonal, networking, and relationship building skills Persuasive written and oral communication skills Ability to meet deadlines, plan ahead, and balance multiple high-profile partner priorities simultaneously Ability to work with and relate to diverse groups of individuals in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial team environment Flexibility and willingness to work outside standard established business hours to meet sudden and unpredictable partnership needs Knowledge of high net worth community via local business, civic, and cultural networks desirable. City Year/AmeriCorps experience a plus Experience with Salesforce preferred Additional Qualities Needed Strategic Thinking and Planning: develops and translates strategies into action plans that build the capacity of the site/department; creative out-of-the-box thinker. Communication: Ability to communicate mission and vision to diverse audiences using creative storytelling to connect to individual/corporate passions and purpose; clearly articulates information and ideas orally and in writing.
