About Babies of Homelessness

Babies of Homelessness delivers basic necessities like diapers, baby wipes, and formula directly to families in need in the King and Snohomish Counties. We are a member of the National Diaper Bank Network, and we are dedicated to helping families with children as a reliable and ongoing source of diapers and other essentials.

Since our founding on December 29, 2016, Babies of Homelessness has provided diapers, wipes, formula, and other necessities to families and under-resourced agencies in the Puget Sound region—specifically, in BIPOC, Latinx, and urban communities— where very few resources for diapers exist.

Within 7 years of existence, we have helped thousands families with children ages 0 to 5 years of age. BoH has delivered over 1.5 million diapers since its founding. In 2023, we distributed 750,000 diapers. We deliver 100s of thousands of diapers each year to 10s of thousands of children in our area.

About the Role

Working with our Executive Director, the Development Director (DD) will bring a passion for our issues paired with a high level of expertise and strategic thinking to drive revenue growth to meet the immediate and increasing need for our core programs and build long-term growth opportunities for BOH.

Working 20-25 hours a week, you will be the lead strategist and project manager of the Diaper Bank’s philanthropic revenue portfolio. The Development Director is both a strategic and tactical position and is responsible for executing and iterating on BOH’s annual development plan, as well as representing BOH to individual and institutional donors. Finally, the DD will be responsible for analyzing and fine-tuning development communications, ensuring the diaper bank is optimizing its messaging at every opportunity.

The BOH team works remotely, occasionally meeting for in-person meetings and other diaper bank program-related work.

The salary for this part-time position will be $40-45 an hour commensurate with experience.

The Development Director can expect his/her/their work to include:

Leadership and Development Strategy

  • Collaborate with and support the organization’s leadership and participate in Babies of Homelessness’ diaper bank’s leadership team
  • Serve as the staff leader and liaison to the BOH Fundraising / Development Committee
  • Manage and execute the organization’s annual development and stewardship plans to achieve annual revenue goals and generate funding to support the programmatic operations of BOH
  • Update existing development and stewardship plans with new ideas, industry best practices, and data-driven analysis
  • Co-manage the design and execution of the organization’s donor management system, Virtuous
  • Ensure a robust gift pipeline big enough to meet annual revenue goals by actively managing prospective and current donors, foundations, and other funders solicited via proposals, grant applications, multiple appeals, and other fundraising activities

Individual Donor Stewardship and Management

  • Partner with the Executive Director to identify, cultivate, and solicit individual donors for major gifts
  • Manage and develop existing initiatives, appeals, and campaigns focused on targeting new donors and stewarding existing donors
  • Coordinate and oversee moves and task management for individual giving
  • Cultivate relationships with the Board of Directors and support them in identifying and tailoring their best development contributions to BOH
  • Execute the donor stewardship process (i.e. acknowledgment letters) and other donor stewardship campaigns to connect donors to the mission of BOH and foster a sense of community
  • Develop creative and mission-centric fundraising messaging that articulates the special role and impact of the Diaper Bank’s work

Foundation and Corporation Relations

  • Serve as the main point of contact for corporate philanthropy programs
  • Manage relationships with existing foundations/corporations
  • Research and develop relationships with potential foundation/corporate funders
  • Serve as primary contact and manage all groups and companies that are sponsoring and/or entering into a cause marketing relationship with BOH.

Fundraising Operations and Gift Entry

  • Design and update a regular progress-to-goal report and development dashboard for the Executive Director and Development Committee
  • Execute high-quality gift entry and revenue tracking, to ensure accurate and thorough documentation of all development activities
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy in all records and reports in Virtuous, the diaper bank’s donation management system

You need to have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of nonprofit development experience
  • Demonstrable experience as a fundraising generalist, with hands-on practice at institutional giving/grant writing, major gifts, annual giving, corporate partnership building, special events, and online giving campaigns
  • Experience managing and improving development operations, ranging from CRM management to budget monitoring to gift processing
  • Excellent working knowledge of Salesforce or Virtuous (or other donor management systems) as a CRM for donor and revenue management
  • Experience working with volunteers of all levels, and liaising with contractors and consultants
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Organized with effective prioritization and attention to detail
  • Flexible, adaptable, with an ability to effectively work in team
  • Goal-oriented and high degree of self-initiative, motivation and discipline
  • Reside in the Seattle area or surrounding city
  • Possess knowledge of community resources, organizations and businesses
  • Possess basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Flexibility and availability to work some evenings and weekends as needed for special programs
  • Ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers
