TITLE: Controller

LOCATION: New York City (hybrid) or Fully Remote in the United States

SALARY : $160,000-$200,000 (based on NYC, will be adjusted for geo)

The Role:

Canoe Intelligence is a fast-growing fintech company that provides cutting-edge solutions for data management and automation in the alternative investment industry. Our innovative platform streamlines workflows and empowers investment professionals to make data-driven decisions with confidence.

As a Controller at Canoe Intelligence, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing our financial operations and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will collaborate closely with the VP of Finance and other key stakeholders to drive financial strategy and support the company's growth trajectory.

What You’ll Do:

• Be the technical accounting decision-maker for the company. Ensure consistent implementation of corporate accounting principles and procedures in full compliance with US GAAP
• Build, develop and mentor the accounting team. Integrate them into the larger culture that includes sales, marketing, customer success, product, engineering and operations departments
• Drive improvements in existing and new reporting systems to increase efficiencies, enhance processes, automate activities and reduce reporting timelines
• Manage all aspects of financial accounting, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to provide strategic insights and drive business decisions
• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting
• Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory standards
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational efficiency and drive process improvements
• Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to facilitate audits and tax filings

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification
• Proven experience as a Controller or similar role in the SaaS industry
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards (GAAP)
• Experience with financial software and ERP systems; proficiency in QuickBooks, Netsuite, or similar tools is a plus
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and influence decision-making
• Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and integrity in financial reporting
