Several thousand professional Scouters lead, guide and facilitate the efforts of more than a million adult volunteers on whom Scouting depends on to carry out its mission. It is the job of the professional Scouter to inspire, recruit, train, have fun, and support the BSA’s volunteers, in addition to working with community leaders and rallying public support for Scouting’s activities.
Today’s professional Scouters are a diverse group of men and women sharing a dynamic career offering independence, achievement, and stability. This is work that makes a difference, work that calls one to continual learning and challenge, work that offers solid compensation, benefits and advancement.
The professional Scouter is assigned to a district or service area within a local council (or metro area). Your district or service area is sustained and successful through your ability to promote, supervise and work with local volunteers.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university ( a combination of work experience and education may also be an option)
We offer several practical benefits for professional staff. In fact, the BSA offers a benefits package considered to be among the best in the nonprofit sector. The package includes major medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage in addition to long-term disability, accident, life insurance, and a retirement plan. The starting salary is $40,000 annually. We also offer thirteen holidays and a generous vacation package. In addition, District Executives are provided a laptop, phone stipend, Scout uniform and mileage reimbursement.
