Boy Scouts of America is Hiring a Wilderness Adventures Associate Director Near Ely, MN

Position Overview

Northern Tier is seeking to hire a Wilderness Adventures Associate Director whose role is to further the mission and vision of the Boy Scouts of America and Northern Tier National High Adventure through the development and management of program, human resources, financial, marketing, and strategic operations. The ideal candidate has experience in a camp setting, serving both in an administrative and a program role. This position manages the daily work activities of a major program, section, or special interest group, serves as the liaison and oversees the execution of programs and services for the assigned constituency group and represents the interests of the assigned constituency group, both inside and outside of the organization. The Wilderness Adventures Associate Director reports to the Manger of Program Operations.

Responsibilities
  • Designs, delivers, and evaluates High Adventure program that meets the needs and interests of the base’s target populations and ensures their delivery in a safe and quality manner.
  • Ensures all programs conform to BSA, NCAP, ACA and Northern Tier requirements for safety, risk management and related concerns.
  • Oversees the daily operation of the assigned program including food service, program, business, and health care.
  • Administers and supports major initiatives in support of quality programs.
  • Advises the relevant task forces within the base committee regarding the program and opportunities for growth and delivery improvement.
  • Actively prospects, recruits, and trains seasonal staff members for program participation.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Competencies:

Knowledge of: BSA program principles, goals, and methods; child development and youth engagement strategies; safety protocols and best practices in youth programs.

Skill in: Planning, developing, and delivering engaging, educational, and exciting programs for youth; leadership and communication including public speaking and creative writing; problem-solving and conflict resolution; program assessment and improvement or enhancement.

Ability to: Motivate and mentor seasonal staff; manage multiple priorities and deadlines, adapt to changing program needs and priorities; ensure a positive and inclusive program environment for all participants; work independently and as part of a team; maintain physical fitness which may be necessary for certain program activities.

Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalency.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a camp setting, serving both in an administrative and a program role.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.
Licenses
  • Must obtain BSA National Camp School Camp Director certification after hire.
