GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Human Resources Generalist is collaborative and partners with all levels of staff with a heart of stewardship through staffing, administering pay, benefits, leave, and contributing to and communicating employment policies and practices. They are a trusted resource to staff, lead with optimism, and have a healthy mix of passion for tasks and people.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes. Knowledge of dual status roles of pastors a plus.
  • Proficiency in (or aptitude to become proficient in) HRIS systems such as Paycom

DUTIES

  • Partner with Accounting and Finance staff to process payroll including 403b contributions and general ledger.
  • Manage the HR transactions within the HRIS that impact payroll including pay changes, job changes, deductions, etc., ensuring data integrity.
  • Partner with Finance to administer compensation program including participating in compensation surveys and compensation analysis.
  • Contribute to, recommend, and communicate policies and programs to ensure equitable treatment of staff members in the areas of employment, compensation, benefits, and employee relations.
  • Manage all employment paperwork and reporting, including new hire and employee change paperwork, compliance reporting, and maintain employee files.
  • Partner with Finance and Benefit Broker to administer and communicate all employee benefit programs and maintain compliance.
  • Manage all hiring functions, including managing job descriptions, hands-on recruitment, prescreening, and interviewing, administering candidate testing, onboarding and orientation, and training/mentoring department heads in recruiting activities.
  • Foster healthy working relationships with employees, build trust, and conduct employee relations counseling.
  • Partner with Sr. Director of Finance and Operations to identify staff training needs, development, and training plans.
  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to payroll, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance management; and safety.
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, staff, and supervisors.
  • Partner with supervisors to manage performance, conduct termination notifications, and investigations.
  • Manage termination and exit processes, including exit interviewing.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Professional HR certification preferred (SHRM or HRCI).
  • At least one year of hands-on human resource management experience preferred.
  • Professional experience working for a large church or nonprofit preferred.
