About the Role:

With locations in Pittsburgh PA and Kutztown PA, McConway and Torley, LLC has been in continuous operations since 1869, the same year the first US transcontinental railroad was completed. We have been able to meet the needs of our customers with a steady, dependable, and economical supply of high-quality coupler products. As the original designers of the first standard automatic coupler, continued innovation and craftsmanship have led to a product line that includes every ARR approved coupler as well as custom coupler solutions, which are all proudly cast in the US.

McConway and Torley is looking for a Human Resources Manager to drive people and process transformation at our manufacturing plant. Initiative, ownership, data-driven decision-making, and leadership development will be key differentiators in both the selection process and the successful execution of the roles and responsibilities of this key position. This position is a key member of the Manufacturing Operational Human Resources Team and is responsible for the effective and successful administration, retention, and development of 200 non-exempt and exempt employees. This includes but is not limited to recruiting, employee relations, employee engagement, performance management, reporting, and compliance.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

What you'll do:

  • Develops and administers various Human Resources strategic plans and procedures for all company personnel to include but not limited to Talent Management, Cultural Improvement, Hiring, & Retention.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs all activities of the HR Department. Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Counsel and assist employees and all levels of management in employee or management issues relating to promotion, termination, or disciplinary action
  • Responsible for effectively identifying, investigating, and resolving employee relations issues.
  • Develop and Implement process and tools that foster open communication and employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Implement positive employee relations processes that support business and employee needs
  • Manage leadership team’s staffing and development requirements.
  • Partnering with Plant Manager and entire plant leadership team to ensure a complete understanding of human capital needs and objectives.
  • Effectively recruit, train, and develop high quality candidates motivated to achieve productivity and business objectives.
  • Reviews evaluation of performance and aligns associate objectives to business strategy.

What you'll need:

  • 7 years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience to include Recruiting, Employee Relations, Training and Development, amongst others
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Industrial Relations, or related field is required
  • Sound working knowledge of applicable state and federal labor and employment law
  • Effective communicator both verbally and written
  • Demonstrates integrity, flexibility, sound judgment and strong critical thinking skills
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and working knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and techniques.

Working Conditions:

  • Full- time position.
  • Work environment includes plant, warehouse, production, and non-production areas.
  • This position may require work/maintenance coverage beyond the normal hours, shift, and on weekends/holidays.
  • Ability to tolerate both high and low temperatures, loud noises typical of a manufacturing plant.
