POSITION REPORTS TO: Participant Services Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt
POSITION PURPOSE:
YouthBuild Case Manager is responsible for providing case management and counseling services to participants enrolled in American YouthWorks’ YouthBuild Program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and basic tasks. Under direct supervision of the Participant Services Manager, the Case Manager will perform the following functions:

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION: Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Professional License in Social Work, Counseling/Psychology, or Chemical Dependency or a related field
Minimum Required
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION: Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Professional License in Social Work, Counseling/Psychology, or Chemical Dependency or a related field.
EXPERIENCE: Four years of previous related experience as described in essential functions and job duties. Two years or more working with academically and socially at-risk opportunity youth and young adults with criminal records and a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, cultural and spiritual practices. Related experience in jobs training, youth development, working with contracts, reporting measurements, audit request, compliance, member coordination and, or working as a YouthBuild/AmeriCorps model;
EQUIVALENT: 30 hours towards a bachelor’s degree with at least 6 hours (equals one year) in the specified or related field of study and three years of detailed work experience; OR High school diploma or GED, and 8- years of specified work experience.

KNOWLEDGE: Microsoft Office and Google applications; Human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality and interests, learning and motivations; principles and processes for providing customer and personal services; principles, methods, and procedures for therapy and counseling; group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, ethnicity, cultures, and history; file management and records retention; working knowledge of social services resources for Travis County and Surrounding areas; Criminal justice system;
SKILLS: Active Listening, Service Orientation, Social Perceptiveness, speaking, writing, monitoring yourself and others, coordination, critical thinking, time management, Instruction, and negotiation; Individual and group counseling; Mediation; Public speaking; Crisis intervention;
ABILITIES: Problem Sensitivity and knowing when there is a problem, speech clarity, written expression, written comprehension, deductive reasoning, category flexibility, inductive reasoning, information ordering, selective attention to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted, time sharing between two or more activities or sources of information, speed closure to quickly make sense of combine and organize information into meaningful patterns.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
TALKING: Speaking clearly so others can understand you and the information you are communicating; conveying detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately; talking in front of groups and, or providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and external partners via telephone, writing form, e-mail or in person provide guidance and direction to others,
HEARING: Hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information;
VISION: See details at a distance and, or at close range, within a few feet of the observer; will be required to read papers, and books and to operate audio-visual, office equipment and tools;
REPETITIVE MOTIONS: Walking; talking; frequent and regular movements of the wrists, hands, and fingers;
PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 20lbs, mostly sedentary work;
EXTENT FLEXIBILITY: Bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and legs;
VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT INTERACTION: Navigating and/or driving a personal vehicle or 15-passenger company vans; using a computer and computer applications to enter data or process information; Photocopiers and scanners.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
INDOORS: Environmentally controlled conditions, working in an office or shared office setting, working with others in a group or team; contact with others (face-to-face, by telephone, or otherwise), No hazardous conditions. May be required to work in hot, wet, cold, or other significantly unpleasant conditions.
OUTDOORS: Occasional for special events.
ATTENDANCE: Monday – Friday starting at 8:00 AM, 40-hour workweek; 30 minutes unpaid lunch break;
TRAVEL: Transport members to appointments as needed or requested. Occasional professional conferences, workshops, training; field trips; and annual staff retreats.
