Job Description:\n\nSalary: $25.00-$26.00per hour CAREER DETAILS: CAREER TITLE: Field Training and Development Manager LOCATION: AYW Operating Site, Houston, TX DIVISION: Conservation Corps DEPARTMENT: Field Operations and Training POSITION REPORTS TO: Houston and Baton Rouge Site Director POSITION SUPERVISES: AmeriCorps Crew Leaders and Crew Members CLASSIFICATION: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt POSITION PURPOSE: The Field Training and Development Manager’s purpose is to ensure field staff and program participants are trained, supported, and developed in alignment with the organizational mission, current environmental stewardship practices, and internal and external policies, procedures, and regulations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and basic tasks. Under direct supervision from the Operating Site Director, the Field Training and Development Manager will perform the following functions:Develop, support, and improve Houston and overall AYW program effectiveness through effective training and management of field staff and member training curriculum delivery; Develop and maintain site-specific field-related training materials and curriculum and incorporate agency-wide training standards in collaboration with staff at all AYW site locations.Provide training and oversight to field staff to ensure that all program activities and related project tracking and program documentation are completed accurately and in a timely fashion;Provide training and support to field staff to ensure understanding of the relationship between program compliance requirements, procedures, and documentation so they are able to support staff managing compliance and effectively prioritize their administrative duties.Train field staff in effectively communicating and reinforcing the connection between the tasks members perform and the applications to their professional development and program operations (i.e., maintaining accurate documentation, administrative and safety procedures, completing timesheets, project work, communication with project partners, staff and crew members, Incident Reports,etc.).Conduct ongoing assessment and identification of Houston staff and member field-related training needs, and develop and maintain resources, partnerships, and schedules for addressing needs in coordination with Houston Site Development Manager and professional development training and workshops.Become a certified instructor in First Aid, CPR and Wilderness First Aid to enable you to train and certify staff and participantsBecome licensed/maintain license for Texas Non-Commercial Herbicide Application to train and oversee staff and participants needing to utilize herbicide for program-related project workCollaborate with Site Development Manager and Safety Coordinator to ensure Site and Field Safety protocols are successfully implemented with staff and members and ensure Field-specific safety needs are met and protocols are up to dateAttend virtual and in-person training for continued education and professional development to ensure the program is responsive to community and environmental career needs and field staff and members are fully supported, as needed, and available.Collaborate with other CC staff at all sites, as needed, to enhance and execute staff and member training and development through providing feedback and leading meetings, curriculum development, and training.Identify, develop, and establish new project partnerships in alignment with the programmatic needs and capabilities:Research and identify new regional partnerships for partner cost-share projects and potential funding opportunities and in-kind support to assist with partner cost-share and field-related equipment needsCoordinate projects with new and potential project partners, which include:developing project partner agreements,conducting initial site visits,initial scheduling timelines and logistics planning for hand-off to field staff,communicating expectations to partner and field staff for implementationProvide oversight and effectively communicate project scheduling parameters and any relevant time-sensitive details and deadlines to the field and other staff responsible for daily scheduling and project implementation; Maintain open communication with scheduling staff to maintain awareness of scheduling needs and ensure changes are managed according to project partner, program, and crew needsProvide administrative oversight and support to Houston field staff to ensure field-related policies and procedures are consistently upheld and staff are supported and understand tasks and expectations;Conduct a monthly internal audit of all Houston field staff-related documentation to ensure it is being completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner( i.e., GulfApprove field staff-related expenses according to agency policies using internal systems in a timely and accurate mannerMeet regularly individually and collectively with field staff to ensure clear policies, procedures, and expectations and to identify and address knowledge and resource gaps.Provide oversight to ensure field staff properly implement vehicle and trailer management, includingConducting safety checks and taking vehicles in for maintenance and repairsAccurately maintain vehicle recordsTake vehicles in for registration inspectionsEffectively communicating vehicle needs to appropriate internal staffCollaborating with key staff members provide training and ongoing support to field staff to ensure they have the necessary knowledge, tools, and resources to effectively manage members, including properly addressing, documenting, and resolving member behavioral issues and contractsLead and Support Field staff in leading and training AmeriCorps Crew Leaders and Members in the following areas:Technical Skill DevelopmentTool Inventory and Maintenance;Safety and proper use of tools, PPE Gear, and Uniforms;Adult CPR/AED First Aid and Wilderness Remote First Aid,Vehicles, inspections, routine logs, and repairs;Project and Time Management skills;Periodic evaluations of strengths and improvements, as per the AmeriCorps Standards;Safety standards and reporting requirements;Driver’s training for safe operation of AYW vehicles and trailersUse of power tools, chainsaws, brush cutters, herbicide applicationLocal ecosystem knowledge and management practices, trail building/maintenance, Disaster Response, and park infrastructure building and maintenance.Monitoring using ArcGIS and Field MapsDeploy with crews and staff on Disaster Deployments for up to two weeks, as needed, when other staff are unavailable and site operations allow.Attend relevant conferences and training to maintain and increase knowledge of conservation, program and staff management best practices;Transporting members to project sites, urgent care centers, or other locations for other needs if field staff is unavailable.Working with key personnel, such as the HR department and Operating Site Director, establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments;Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Required EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION: Bachelor’s degree environmental studies or related field, or similar activities in AmeriCorps or national service; EXPERIENCE: Three or more years of previous related experience in conservation and restoration programs; prior experience leading a team or supervising; prior experience in training and development of young adults and/or adults. Working with a young and diverse population experiencing barriers to education and employment with criminal records and a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, cultural and spiritual practices; and working with contracts, reporting measurements, compliance, member coordination, and, or working in a Conservation/YouthBuild/AmeriCorps model; EQUIVALENT EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree in the specified or field of study and 2-years of the specified experience. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of Disaster Response including volunteer and donations management; Trail building and habitat restoration experience; Mechanical and basic tool knowledge, including use of a chainsaw; CPR/First Aid; Herbicide use; Team-based coordination and logistics; SKILLS: Lead teams and develop leaders; Good problem solving and logistical skills; Flexibility under pressure; Mediation skills; Basic computer skills; Operate passenger van, truck with trailer, and other heavy equipment; Chainsaw operation; GPS/GIS; Carpentry, small engine maintenance; Project management; Project partner relations; Operate in diverse community settings; Able to provide mentorship under stressful conditions ABILITIES: Attentive to detail and accuracy; Well-organized; Cooperative, patient and willing to assist others, open and honest personality, Flexibility under pressure, Good decision maker; Able to build consensus. OUTDOORS: Independent, isolated settings, may be required to work in hot, wet, cold, or other significantly unpleasant conditions, including active and non-active disaster work zones and areas; ATTENDANCE: Monday – Friday, flexible 40 hour workweek; 1 hour unpaid lunch break; and off-site Disaster and Conservation Hitches. Occasionally some weekends to meet deadlines/special projects, overtime must be pre-approved TRAVEL: Travel to AmeriCorps service sites and transport corps members as needed. Travel of up to one week at a time for project planning purposes, occasionally for professional conferences, workshops, training, and annual staff retreat, up to 2 weeks for occasional disaster deployment as administrative support.
