Compensation: $84,756 Annually

Status: 100%, Full-time, Exempt, Management

Probation: 180 days

ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY: The Los Angeles LGBT Center is the world’s largest LGBT organization of any kind. In 10 locations across Los Angeles, the Center’s nearly 800 employees and hundreds of volunteers offers programs, services, and global advocacy that span four broad categories: Health, Social Services, and Housing, Culture and Education, Leadership, and Advocacy. The Center is an unstoppable force in the fight against bigotry and the struggle to build a better world.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Human Resources Department focuses on the employee experience at the Center. We are a Mission-driven group of colleagues who develop strategies for growth and engagement of Center Staff through an inclusive culture where we can all bring our authentic selves to work. Human Resources fosters employee and labor relations through the Center’s approach to onboarding diverse talent, promoting well-being with our robust package of benefits, and staying true to our core values through culturally-competent training. JOB SUMMARY: The HR Business Partner plays a pivotal role in managing and overseeing a wide range of HR functions within the organization. This position involves collaborating closely with various departments to ensure the smooth implementation of HR policies, procedures, and programs. The HR Business Partner serves as a trusted advisor to both employees and management, providing guidance and support on matters related to employee relations, performance management, and conflict resolution. Additionally, this role involves conducting thorough investigations into workplace issues and complaints, ensuring fairness and adherence to company policies and legal requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a solid understanding of HR best practices, and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. This position may support compliance and audit processes on behalf of the Human Resources Department and in partnership with the agency’s departments and programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Collaborate with leadership to understand business objectives and develop HR strategies aligned with organizational goals.

• Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on a wide range of HR matters, including performance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.

• Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs, develop job descriptions, and execute recruitment strategies to attract top talent while promoting diversity and inclusion.

• Implement and support performance management processes, including goal setting, performance evaluations, and development planning to enhance employee engagement and productivity.

• Interpret and guide leaders on HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as industry best practices.

• Support organizational change efforts by providing guidance and support to employees and managers, fostering a culture of resilience and adaptability.

• Conduct investigations into employee complaints or concerns, collaborating with appropriate stakeholders to reach timely and effective resolutions.

• Lead or contribute to HR projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing HR processes, systems, and practices to support organizational growth and effectiveness.

• Consult, counsel and coach managers on employee-related issues and promote an engaged and positive culture.

• Develop a rapport with a variety of personalities, maintain a calm and professional demeanor during stressful situations, and effectively defuse escalated personnel situations.

• Analyze and interpret data, identify areas of concern and recognize when there is a problem and how to resolve it.

• Determines compliance within regulations, policies and procedures, identifying options for corrective action.

• Supports various program audits and operational audits throughout the year in partnership with departments and programs providing employment, time and payroll documentation as requested by the program and grants management.

• Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in an HR business partner or similar role.

• Lived or working experience with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.

• A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.

• Experience in human resources, criminal justice, employment law (juris doctorate), business administration, and/or similar education.

• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and other pertinent HR strategic practices.

• Experience and technical expertise in conducting investigatory interviews involving difficult and uncomfortable subjects.

• Experience with labor relations and union contracts, preferred.

• Ability to be empathetic and to provide emotional support while also gathering facts.

• Exceptional communicator, including verbal and written communication, including writing, editing and making presentations as well as skilled at listening.

• Demonstrated organization and planning skills to effectively work in a non-structured environment and adapt to changes in priorities.

• Cultural humility with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and inclusively building trusting relationships.

• Computer proficient with the ability to analyze data with knowledge of various software applications, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

• Experience developing and providing trainings on employee investigations, performance management, and coaching and counseling, a plus.

• Experience in a multi-fund non-profit agency, a plus.

• Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).

• Access to reliable transportation and the ability to be insured.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
