Location: Washington Corrections Center | Shelton, WA
Salary Range: $4,300 - $5,771 Monthly

This position is represented by the Teamsters 117 bargaining unit.
The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a detail oriented and critical thinking individual to join the Washington Corrections Center team as a Fiscal Analyst 1! The goal of this position is to ensure the accurate management of incarcerated individual trust funds and the timely processing of financial transactions while providing excellent customer service to all stakeholders within the facility, by demonstrating respectful and inclusive interactions.
As an FA1, this position is responsible for a multitude of tasks including local fund and general accounting activities to include daily deposits, journal vouchers, general ledger and purchase card reconciliations.
The candidate of choice will utilize excellent communication and organization skills as you will partner with various Business Staff including Warehouse, Classification Counselors, Records, Mail Room, Vendors, Incarcerated Individuals, Incarcerated Individual Family/Friends, HQ Trust Accounting Staff, other Facility’s Local Funds Staff and Other State/Federal Agencies. In addition, experience with Microsoft Office suite programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word and TEAMS is a plus!

Duties

As a Fiscal Analyst 1, some of your duties will include:
  • Local Fund Accounting
    • Prepare monthly fiscal statements and reports in accordance with GAAP.
    • Accurately and efficiently process deposit and withdrawal activity for locally held accounts.
    • Prepare and process accounting entries for local accounts.
    • Month-end activity: prepare monthly local fund financial reports, prepare and produce payment for local fun liabilities, prepare required State and Federal reports.
  • General Accounting
    • Record and reconcile reimbursable activities.
    • Assist LBM with minor tasks related to reconciliation of the general ledger accounts.
    • Coordinates with HQ Disbursement Unit to ensure timely payments.
    • Assists with fiscal year-end closing activities.
    • Prepare, reconcile and analyze general ledger activity.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

What we need (required qualifications):
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Accounting 201 and Accounting 202 from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
    • Regarding Accounting 201 and Accounting 202: If incumbent has credits in one of the two required courses and is enrolled in the second course at the time of the interview, they will be allowed six months from date of hire to achieve the required credits in the second course. If credits in the second course are not achieved within six months of hire, it will be deemed a failure to successfully complete the review period.
  • One year of relevant experience. Relevant experience is defined as Fiscal Technicial 2 or above level work.
    • Provided that a candidate possesses a degree focused on accounting or business management/administration: an AA degree can be equivalent to 1 year required work experience, and BA degree or above can be equivalent to 2 years of required work experience. Equivalencies to be reviewed by Comptroller/designee, degrees outside of focused areas will NOT count towards experience requirements.
