The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the role of Psychology Associate for the Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) located just northeast of the Seattle area in Washington. These are full time positions with a day shift schedule.
The Psychology Associate functions as a Primary Therapist at the facility within the assigned area of responsibility, providing assessment, diagnostic, treatment, and crisis services for incarcerated individuals with a mental health condition.

Please note that this position is currently not eligible for telehealth and the selected candidate will be required to reside in Washington State and report to the facility during their work hours.

Duties

  • Provide Mental Health Treatment and Case Management of Incarcerated Individuals.
    • Conduct intake assessments.
    • Diagnose presenting concerns in accordance with The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual
      {DSM) and determine whether or not conditions meet treatment criteria per the WA DOC Health Plan and functional deficits.
    • Develop treatment glans with patients.
    • Deliver evidence based treatment in accordance with treatment plan.
    • Evaluate progress of treatment.
    • Regularly consult with supervising psychologist.
  • Complete necessary documentation in a timely manner: Mental Health Encounters, MHA/Us, Treatment Plans, Discharge Summaries, ORCS referrals, COCs as needed, etc. (this list is not exhaustive).
  • Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary and Facility Risk Management team meetings as needed.
    • Complete IT JS and job screening, incoming transport screenings.
    • Participate in relevant classification and transfer decisions.
    • Provide support and respond to needs of all DOC staff when issues of mental health of an incarcerated individual are raised.
    • Work closely in an integrated team of corrections, classification, and Health Services staff.
  • Crisis Intervention.
    • Respond to mental health emergencies.
    • Complete Suicide Risk Assessments.
    • Deliver crisis de-escalation services.
    • Communicate crisis resolution and follow up plan.
  • Other Duties As Assigned.
    • Attend and complete required annual in-service and other DOC training .
    • Participate in Involuntary Antipsychotic Medication Hearings on a rotational basis as the chair or lay advisor.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed Agency Affiliated Counselor (LAAC) – Issued by Washington State Department of Health (DOH).
    • Must have the ability to apply for Licensed Agency Affiliated Counselor License within 30 days of hire date.
    • Additional consideration may be given for higher level Department of Health, Mental Health Licenses.
  • One (1) year supervised work experience providing direct psychological services in a mental health facility or like agency,
  • At least one (1) year of experience providing individual or group therapy to individuals with mental illness,
  • Knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy theory and techniques.
    • -OR-
  • Two (2) years of supervised work experience providing direct psychological services in a mental health facility or like agency.
  • Note: An Agency Affiliated counselor may only provide counseling services as part of his or her employment for a recognized agency. Applicants for an agency affiliated counselor credential who apply within 30 days of employment may provide services within the agency for up to 60 days while the Department of Health processes your application.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of supervised experience.
  • At least one year of experience working independently and effectively to develop and provide individual and group therapies.
  • Experience linking clients with resources within institutions and/or the community.
  • Experience working in a collaborative fashion as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Official Washington State Licensure as a mental health clinician.

  • Salary is based on experience and is determined at the time a final offer of employment is made. The salary range listed in the job posting includes Steps A-M. Step M is a longevity step and is typically gained six years after being assigned to Step L in your permanent salary range.
