Liberty University is Hiring an Executive Director of CASAS Near Lynchburg, VA

The Executive Director of Advising Success position is a twelve-month full-time faculty position in the College of Applied Studies and Academic Success. This individual reports to the Dean of CASAS and the Associate Dean, and oversees planning, development, implementation, delivery, and assessment of academic advising, student advocate work and international student support concerns for all resident undergraduate students. The Executive Director of Advising Success supervises a Senior Director and 4 Assistant Directors and a Coordinator while collaborating with academic administration, other learning professionals, academic departments, and student service offices to ensure the effective implementation of academic advising support objectives, polices, and procedures to enhance student development, academic decision-making, career exploration, academic success, and persistence to graduation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:55%
  • Continuous development, review, assessment and improvement of academic advising content, processes, policies, objectives, and procedures grounded in a developmental advising curriculum, CAS Standards, NACADA best-practice recommendations and ethical/legal considerations consistent with the mission and aims of the university
  • Maintain Reference Manuals and Academic Guides for advising students to ensure accuracy and consistency of information provided to advisees
  • Develop short-term and long-term strategic (5-year) plans to advance a developmental advising curriculum and ensure implementation of CAS Standards and NACADA best-practice recommendations, and ethical/legal considerations consistent with university purpose and aims
  • Enhance, assess, report, and revise a comprehensive interactive advising resource web site
  • Enhance, implement, assess, report, and revise a comprehensive developmental advising curriculum
  • Enhance implement, assess, report, and revise a comprehensive Advisor Training and development curriculum
  • Enhance, implement, assess, report and revise a comprehensive ongoing student satisfaction, advisor performance, and advising outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other learning professionals to identify and retain students at risk, facilitate academic decision-making and career exploration, and address the academic and advising needs of special populations of students such as athletes, international students, Honors students, band members, debaters, undecided students, resident students taking LUO classes, etc.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with other learning professionals, academic departments, academic administration, and student service offices through regular communications and CASAS Roundtable, CASAS Departmental, Academic Departmental Liaison, Advising Council meetings, and CRM training for Faculty Mentors.
  • Serve as a resource for other learning professionals and faculty members
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of registration, Summer and Fall Orientation, College for a Weekend, My Liberty Mondays, Transfer Tuesdays, Friendly Friday or any other university planning sessions or programs as needed
  • Conduct research, present workshops, and otherwise promote excellence in academic advising, and practices supporting student success, academic decision-making, career exploration, and persistence to graduation
  • Participate in relevant professional organizations and professional development opportunities to maintain a high level of expertise about current trends and best practices related to academic advising
  • Provide data to all Academic Departments on their student (Freshmen/Sophomores, Junior/Senior, and New/Transfer students.)
  • Provide ongoing reports with CRM Appointment/ Survey data for all Academic Departments.
  • Cultivate strong partnership between advising areas and academic departments by facilitating and evaluating effectiveness of services.
Oversee staff: 40%
  • Conduct interviews, process hiring paperwork, conduct annual performance review of Senior Director and Assistant Directors, train Assistant Directors and others on how to do evaluations for their respective staffs, and review all evaluations
  • Oversee initial training and ongoing staff development opportunities grounded in a developmental advising curriculum, CAS Standards, NACADA best-practice recommendations, and ethical/legal issues relevant to advising consistent with university purpose and aims
  • Compile and update appropriate resources for advisor information and professional development
  • Ensure effective day-to-day operations and management of the academic advising staff
  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate productivity tracking devices for planning and assessment purposes
  • Plan and direct the activities of the academic advising staff including advising load
  • Process Human Resources paperwork for vacation and sick leave requests
  • Ensure appropriate recognition and affirmation of exemplary service in academic advising
  • Maintain an annual planning calendar
  • Ensure proper flow of communication and accuracy of information throughout the academic advising endeavor
  • Ensure consistent and appropriate implementation of academic policies and procedures
  • Ensure appropriate handling of student records, systematic purging of advisee files, and advisee assignment by major or special population designation to the appropriate academic advisor
  • Request reports, interpret data, assess needs and make decisions regarding management of advising processing, load distribution, and special population processing
  • Compile reports and proposals as needed
  • Plan Advising leadership and general advising meetings
  • Meet personally with each staff member at least once per semester
Faculty and teaching responsibilities: 5%
  • Serve on faculty committees as needed and attend all general faculty meetings, required workshops, faculty chapel, etc.
  • Participate in Academic Success Center faculty departmental meetings
  • Teach one or more sections of CLST 105 or MENT 100 in the fall and spring each academic year as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in relevant discipline
  • A minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in education, academic administration, or academic advising, with a minimum of four years of experience in a higher education setting, to include at least three years at a significant supervisory level.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate students, student development, career counseling, academic advising, student retention, student success strategies and services, educational theory and practice, FERPA regulations and other ethical/legal issues relevant to advising, program and curriculum assessment, and academic and administrative policies/procedures
  • Knowledge of the curricula and programs offered at the university
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the university mission and aims
  • Ability to think critically, produce and analyze reports and proposals, and resolve organizational and individual problems in collaboration with other learning professionals as appropriate
  • Excellent planning, leadership, supervisory, and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with (or willingness to become familiar with) the National Association of Academic Advising (NACADA) core values, and best practices
• Willingness to expand and contribute to the scholarship of professional advising via presentations or articles in the field of higher education.

  • Excellent organizational and listening skills.
  • Computer experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), databases, spreadsheets, and Banner.

Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • Occasionally required to travel to local and campus locations.

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Cell Phone Stipend
Cell phone stipend will be provided to access email, files, and Microsoft teams after hours for work efficiency and productivity.
Work Environment
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting.It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate.
Driving Requirements
Use of one's personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
Work Hours
  • 40 hours/weekly (2,080 yearly)
  • Typically 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Willingness to be flexible, as needed.
