TULSA HEALTH DEPARTMENT is Hiring a Seasonal Pool Inspector Near Goodwin, OK

Primarily responsible for performing and/or coordinating visual and technical inspections of public bathing pools for compliance with acceptable health standards as set forth in city and state regulations. This position is 30-40 hours per week working from June through early September. The following functions represent the majorities of the duties performed by the position, but are not meant to be all-inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (90% of Time):
1. Conducts and/or coordinates inspections of public bathing pools and spas to identify noncompliance conditions and recommends remedial actions to bring facilities into compliance; investigates complaints regarding public bathing places; collects samples and data and conducts required water parameter tests; interprets results and communicates results to pool owners/operators; prepares reports and maintains records of activities; and submits documentation to city and state agencies. Makes recommendations concerning remedial actions to correct environmental health problems and initiates enforcement procedures; recommends and implements compliance actions such as warnings, fines, informal hearings, formal hearings, and license suspension; and conducts follow-up investigations to monitor progress of correction improvement.
2. Participates in licensing and certification programs.
3. Completes required training in support of duties and responsibilities of this position.
4. Other duties as assigned including those required to fulfill activities in support of public health emergency operations.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS (10% of Time):
1. Provides information to interested parties regarding applicable health/environmental and sanitation regulations to aid compliance efforts; solicits cooperation in promoting sound environmental/public health practices; and informs and assists in providing technical assistance to municipalities, industry, community groups, and other interested parties regarding pool regulations.
2. Participates in epidemiological investigations.Education – High School Diploma
Experience – None
Skills – Skills are required to operate field-testing equipment. Good oral and written communication skills are required to effectively deal with the public and to write technical reports. Ability to distinguish colors in reading colorimetric test results.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
• Regular internal contact with office personnel to give and obtain pertinent information.
• External contact with state, county, and city personnel, representatives of adjacent communities, contractors, pool suppliers, and individuals regarding the design and operation of public bathing places.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
• Must carry required equipment (notebook, thermometer, route book, etc.);
• Must be able to bend, reach above shoulder height, pick up or move equipment, utensils, etc., weighing approximately up to 50 pounds; and
• Must be able to open heavy doors, climb fences and stairs, walk through rural areas, and withstand hot and cold weather.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/ACCOUNTABILITY:
Direct Supervision – None.
Budget/Money/Material – Responsible for assigned equipment.
Reports to – Program Coordinator
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals, reagents in test kits, and bad weather. Extreme heat indoors and out. Working with unpredictable, citizens during resolution of complaints may cause stressful conditions. Must be available during off-hours to investigate emergency situations. Must be able to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl to see pool pumps and pipes, ability to climb stairs and open gates, must be able to extend arms up, down, and out, ability to grasp objects by using fingers and hands. Stand or sit for extended periods of time, and walk for an extended period of time.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must maintain THD record confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations.
• Must possess ability and willingness to perform job-related travel.
• Must possess a valid Oklahoma drivers license
