Primarily responsible for performing and/or coordinating visual and technical inspections of public bathing pools for compliance with acceptable health standards as set forth in city and state regulations. This position is 30-40 hours per week working from June through early September.
The following functions represent the majorities of the duties performed by the position, but are not meant to be all-inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (90% of Time):
1. Conducts and/or coordinates inspections of public bathing pools and spas to identify noncompliance conditions and recommends remedial actions to bring facilities into compliance; investigates complaints regarding public bathing places; collects samples and data and conducts required water parameter tests; interprets results and communicates results to pool owners/operators; prepares reports and maintains records of activities; and submits documentation to city and state agencies. Makes recommendations concerning remedial actions to correct environmental health problems and initiates enforcement procedures; recommends and implements compliance actions such as warnings, fines, informal hearings, formal hearings, and license suspension; and conducts follow-up investigations to monitor progress of correction improvement.
2. Participates in licensing and certification programs.
3. Completes required training in support of duties and responsibilities of this position.
4. Other duties as assigned including those required to fulfill activities in support of public health emergency operations.
SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS (10% of Time):
1. Provides information to interested parties regarding applicable health/environmental and sanitation regulations to aid compliance efforts; solicits cooperation in promoting sound environmental/public health practices; and informs and assists in providing technical assistance to municipalities, industry, community groups, and other interested parties regarding pool regulations.
2. Participates in epidemiological investigations.
