Director of Center for Student Engagement and Leadership

DESCRIPTION
:

The director of CSEL is primarily responsible for ensuring there are a wide variety of extra/co curricular participation and leadership development activities, builds campus community that supports equity and inclusion through a social justice lense and leads to the persistence and retention of students to help achieve their academic goal(s). The college's mission is: Teaching | Learning | Community which is the director's position to do in the broadest terms possible. CSEL connects students with opportunities that provide learning outside the classroom and the support needed to be successful and welcome at .
Student Success is the focal point of what drives the mission and purpose of CSEL and the wide variety of direct programs and services provided to students accessing the department. My position is responsible for connecting students with opportunities to learn and serve through leadership development, participation in service projects that connect them with the community, participation and involvement in clubs, and serving the campus community and community at-large. With the new student success coach/mentor we are in direct support of assisting our most vulnerable and underrepresented students. Developing one-on-one relationships with students helps provide a point of connection and support that will reduce barriers and increase student success and academic goal attainment. The Food Pantry provides the basic support/subsistence for the growing population of food insecure students. This foundational support is absolutely critical for students to come prepared to learn and be successful.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage and oversee day to day operation of Center for Student Engagement full and part-time staff professional staff and part-time student staff to meet college, division and department goals and objectives
  • Administrative oversight and accountability and budgetary authority for the development and monitoring of annual Services and Activities Fee Budget and 5 Associated Students self-assessed fees and budgets.
  • Accountable for the development and continuity of Associated Students by training, directing, advising and guiding student leaders regarding college policies and procedures, attending Executive Board meetings and advising students in compliance with ASEC guiding documents: ASEC Constitution, Financial Code, and the Washington State Open Public Meetings Act.
  • Accountable for Triton Student Center (TSC) scheduling, CSEL Welcome Desk operations, oversight of TSC facility safety and maintenance.
  • Provide leadership and oversee the development of a comprehensive student programs and leadership development program that meets the needs of students with specific focus on underrepresented student populations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is an exempt position that reports to the Represent the college at state council and regional meetings, represent CSEL at college, division and department and ad-hoc committee meetings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master¿s degree OR equivalent combination of relevant educational and work experience.
  • 5 years of experience in a higher education or similar position.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience

  • Presentation and teaching methods including lectures, group discussion, group and individual activities. Understanding individual learning styles, and using virtual methods to deliver content.
  • Effectively communicate and present information for learning and understanding to apply specific principles, techniques and information.

  • Planning and preparing for meetings, identifying key issues, goals and expectations of the group, leading complex discussions, guiding groups through difficult or potentially divisive issues.
  • Coordinating and leading small groups in a variety of settings in a positive and cooperative environment to develop and implement plans or resolve problems.
  • Organizational Awareness
  • Understanding department roles and responsibilities and utilizing available resources to accomplish work objectives, share knowledge and coach others in organizational structure and context.
  • Using knowledge and understanding of organizational climate to make decisions and take actions that contribute effectively to organizational goals.

  • Leading change and clarify priorities, accept change and help others deal with ongoing demands of change, anticipate and effectively communicate change, develop new strategies and tactics.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in an office setting, and onsite/in-person. The ability to sit at a desk/computer station, bend, stoop, walk and generally move around the office to consult with others, work within a busy environment and remain focused on tasks. Inventory management requires some lifting and moving of objects up to 30lbs. Excellent communication skills are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not their first language. This also includes the ability to produce clearly written documents. Those who are multilingual are strongly encouraged to apply. .

COMPENSATION:

Salary is $76,683.60 - $84,150.47 and is based on the Edmonds College administrative/exempt salary schedule, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options and more. Vacation and leave package includes 12 sick days per year, 11 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, and 24 vacation leave days per year.


WORK SCHEDULE:

40-hour work week. Monday through Friday with varying start and end times (8:00 am to 5:00 pm or 9:00 am to 6:00 pm). Job requires working 5-7 evenings per quarter and a very occasional weekend.


FLSA Status:

The position is an exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act requirements.
